Medication Technician (Med Tech)

Chula Vista, CA
Full Time: NOC Shift, 10:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., 4/2 – four days on, two days off.
Pay: $19.00/hr – $22.00/hr.
This Medication Technician is responsible for the safe administration of medications to residents as ordered by the attending physician, following established nursing standards, overseeing the care provided by caregivers, and performing caregiving duties.
Essential Functions- Assists residents with their daily medications, treatments, and resident care as assigned and within the scope of practice, policy, procedures, and Title 22 Regulations.
- Responsible for maintaining a current accounting of residents’ medications and the documentation required for that process. Track all orders for medication changes and/or refills.
- Observe and verify that medication is ingested or applied as directed. Document any instance where prescribed medication is not administered, including reason(s) for refusal, and notify the supervisor.
- Keep medicine carts and areas orderly, clean, appropriately stocked, and locked. Maintain the upkeep and cleanliness of medicine carts and medication room(s).
- Ensures that the available medications coincide with what the authorized prescriber (e.g., physician) has prescribed.
- Follows infection control techniques in performing patient/resident care.
- Follows the ordering, refilling, and receiving of medications from the pharmacy.
- Destroys medications as needed and according to state and community procedures.
- Documents all communication with prescribers, family/significant others, and the resident according to community policy.
- Continually observe each resident for potential adverse reactions to medications and/or signs/symptoms indicating the need to change the medication regimen.
- Documents changes in the resident’s condition and nursing care in the appropriate system(s), progress notes, and on the care plan.
- Notifies physicians of changes in resident condition and follows through until appropriate action is taken.
- Performs 72-hour health checks for residents, as needed.
- May assist with caregiver functions.
- Perform all other related duties as assigned.
- Effective oral and written communication skills appropriate to the audience's needs.
- Demonstrates a high level of accuracy, even under pressure.

- Ability to perform work independently with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated time management and priority‑setting skills.
- Ability to simultaneously handle multiple priorities.
- High School diploma or GED.
- 0 Year with knowledge of State and Federal regulations.
