Position Description

The Staff Accountant supports the financial operations of Cost Quest Associates by maintaining accurate accounting records, assisting with financial reporting, managing general ledger activities, and ensuring compliance with company policies and accounting standards. This role is responsible for transactional accounting, account reconciliations, month-end close activities, and supporting audits, budgeting, and financial analysis in a fast-paced technology consulting and data products environment.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and capable of managing multiple priorities while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and post journal entries and maintain the general ledger.
  • Reconcile balance sheet and income statement accounts on a monthly basis.
  • Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing activities.
  • Analyze financial transactions and ensure proper accounting treatment and supporting documentation.
  • Process vendor invoices and employee expense reimbursements, including review for appropriate approvals and coding.
  • Assist with customer invoicing, revenue tracking, accounts receivable monitoring, and collection efforts as needed.
  • Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies.
  • Assist in preparing monthly financial statements, management reports, and schedules for departmental and project-based analysis.
  • Support budget preparation, forecasting, variance analysis, and other financial analysis requested by management.
  • Assist with payroll reconciliations and payroll-related journal entries.
  • Assist with employee benefit reconciliation.
  • Support accounting and reconciliation of employee benefit plans, 401(k), and ESOP activities and ensure related expenses are properly recorded.
  • Help maintain internal controls and accounting procedures and ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Prepare documentation required for external audits, tax filings, regulatory reporting, and other compliance reviews.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and financial reporting efficiency.
  • Assist with implementation and optimization of accounting systems and reporting tools.
  • Participate in special projects and cross-functional initiatives as assigned.
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
Required Skills:
  • 2-5 years of accounting experience.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, GAAP, and internal control concepts.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, lookups, and financial analysis tools.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
Preferred

Skills:
  • Experience using accounting and ERP systems; experience with Microsoft Business Central is a plus.
  • Experience in a professional services, technology, telecommunications, or consulting environment.
  • Experience with project-based revenue recognition, multi-state sales tax, and payroll accounting.

Working Conditions:
  • Primarily office-based work with extended computer use.
  • Periodic additional hours may be required during month-end close, annual audit activities, and budget preparation cycles.
