Position Overview

Senior Estimator is responsible for developing detailed and accurate cost estimates for construction projects, leading the estimating team, and contributing to the strategic bidding process. This role requires expertise in cost analysis, risk assessment, and collaboration with project teams to ensure successful project execution.

Responsibilities
  • Review and evaluate historical data from job reports, purchase orders, trade partners and productivity analysis reports and incorporate information into estimates.
  • Review project specifications and drawings, attend pre-bid meetings, and communicate with designers to determine scope of work and required contents of estimates. Identify major components of bid and strategize to obtain a competitive edge over other bidders.
  • Perform accurate and thorough takeoffs and conduct industry standard checks and balances.
  • Coordinate bids and other submissions of trade partners and suppliers. Be responsible for the entire bid submittal including obtaining appropriate bonding and / or insurance.
  • Provide conceptual estimates that are very detailed by anticipating the design intended.
  • Maintain knowledge of current market and pricing conditions.
  • Track awarded contracts as required and participate in post projects evaluations to enhance the ability to stay current with the historical database.
  • Mentor and oversee junior estimators, providing guidance on best practices and cost estimation methodologies.
  • Visit jobsites to enhance field experience and learn new ways to estimate future jobs.
  • Responsible for gathering, maintaining and updating the company’s estimating historical database.
  • Provide analysis of each project’s potential risks and exposure prior to finalizing the bid or proposal process.
  • Assist in purchasing projects and be involved with the transaction to project managers and accounting departments.
  • Perform additional assignments as directed by the Director of Preconstruction and or by the Vice President of Pre-Construction.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction management, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in construction estimating, with a focus on commercial projects.
  • Strong knowledge of construction materials, labor costs, and market pricing conditions.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Project, MS SharePoint, MS Outlook and Adobe/ Bluebeam and Plan Swift.
  • Experience in Plan Swift a plus.
  • Experience working with trade partners, suppliers, and design teams.
