Position: Physician (Cardiology-Interventional)

Overview

The primary role of the Staff Physician - Interventional Cardiologist is to provide clinical care in Interventional Cardiology and to oversee the education of Fellows, Residents, and Medical Students within the practice area.

Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical care in Interventional Cardiology for assigned inpatients and outpatients
  • Serve as staff attending for the interventional cardiology consult service as assigned
  • Perform the full spectrum of interventional cardiology procedures
  • Provide pre-procedural and post-procedural care, including critical care management when necessary
  • Facilitate the delivery of patient care in collaboration with other health professionals, medical center staff, and management
  • Participate in education of residents, medical students, and fellows; present teaching rounds, lectures, and conferences
  • Participate in grading sessions for medical students and GME trainees
Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants may be referred and tentatively selected before all requirements are met. Current VA physicians who met the requirements at their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.

Basic Requirements
  • United States Citizenship (non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy)
  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine (MD) or equivalent in medicine or osteopathic medicine
  • Degree obtained from a school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year the course of study was completed
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia
  • Residency Training: completion of residency approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification
  • Board eligibility or board certification in Internal Medicine and Interventional Cardiology (note: some positions may require board certification for faculty status)
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English
  • Physical requirements as per VA Directive and Handbook 5019; a physical examination prior to placement is required
  • Ability to perform long periods of standing or walking in operating room and outpatient settings
Additional Information
  • Residencies approved by ACGME or AOA or equivalent programs with appropriate professional training
  • PRPs (Physician Resident Providers) may be eligible in certain circumstances and must be fully licensed
  • Privacy, safety, and patient care standards apply; subject to credentialing and privileging processes
Duties and Schedule
  • Work Schedule:

    Monday through Friday, 7:30 am – 4:00 pm
  • Senior responsibilities as assigned by Section Chief and Chief Medical Service
  • Clinical duties include administering high-quality patient care for adults 18-65 and older adults 65+
  • Maintain required mandatory training for privileges and participate in facility programs to improve patient care
