Overview
The University of Cincinnati College of Law seeks lawyers and judges to teach courses to students on a part-time basis. The law school’s adjunct faculty are part-time, non-tenure/tenure track employees who teach specific courses during specific semesters as agreed. The College is currently seeking applicants to teach courses across the curriculum that will enhance our current offerings.
Essential Functions- Prepare for your course, including developing the syllabus, selecting teaching materials and books, preparing course materials and assessments/exams, and devising lesson plans with clear learning objectives and policies.
- Provide a classroom environment conducive to learning and teach the assigned course(s) using appropriate pedagogical methods.
- Track attendance and refer students for issues as required; use the institution’s learning management platforms (TWEN, Canvas) to post assignments, syllabi, and communicate with students when appropriate.
- Provide timely written feedback on submitted work and assessments.
- Hold regular office hours to offer individualized guidance and assess progress.
- Coordinate with Administration to schedule make-up classes for any cancelled sessions to ensure proper teaching hours.
- Grade mid-term and final exam papers and other assessments in accordance with College rules and submit grades on timelines established by the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.
- Review student course evaluations to identify teaching improvements and respond accordingly.
- Adhere to all University and College of Law policies and complete all employment documentation and required trainings.
- Hold the Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited law school or the equivalent.
- Five years post-J.D. experience in legal practice or related field; exceptions may be made if applicant co-teaches with someone meeting the minimum experience.
- Effective communication and professional demeanor at all times.
- Promote the vision, mission, and core values of the College.
- Prior teaching experience is desirable but not required; applicants must demonstrate evidence of teaching potential.
- Face-to-face instruction is the default; distance learning may be approved under the Distance Learning Policy.
