Position Summary: Theatre Xavier seeks a Head Carpenter Mentor to be filled immediately. This is a part‑time position. 5+ years of experience in stage craft or a similar job is required, as well as strong educational experience. The appropriate candidate has a passion for theatre and for working with high school students.
This role involves overseeing and teaching high‑school theatre students stage‑craft techniques during the building of sets for Theatre Xavier Main Stage productions. The candidate should have strong knowledge of technical theatre and stage‑craft techniques, a dedication to safety, and the ability to educate students in proper safety procedures. The position requires close collaboration with the Technical Director and Co‑Directors of Theatre Xavier.
Compensation is a per‑show stipend.
- Ensure student health and safety are maintained through proper supervision and enforcement of safety rules.
- Monitor student behavior, especially during busy times.
- Provide one‑on‑one instruction to students.
- Implement safe and effective procedures for using tools, fully training students before usage.
- Keep the Scene Shop and stage clean and safe.
- Work cooperatively with the Technical Director and Co‑Directors.
- Check in with the Technical Director regarding tasks, issues, and projects.
- Serve as an initial point of contact; help students use tools, equipment, and material in the Scene Shop.
- Assist the Technical Director with the execution of set drawings.
- Take initiative to complete projects and propose new ideas.
- Promptly inform the Technical Director of any issues that need attention.
- Provide evidence of an ability and commitment to furthering the Jesuit, Catholic mission, and identity of the school.
- Positive attitude in dynamic situations; highly self‑disciplined and self‑motivated.
- Experience working with adolescents.
- A demonstrated track record of success.
- Engaging and approachable.
- Able to balance a variety of competing priorities.
- 5+ years of experience in stage craft or a similar job.
- Strong experience working in an educational setting.
