Job Overview

An Assistant Professor Educator within CCPS has a primary responsibility for Teaching (80%). Additionally, Assistant Professor Educators are expected to contribute to Service activities (0-20%) and/or engage in Scholarly or Professional activities (0-20%).

Position Overview

Assistant Professor Educators hired into this role will have primary responsibility for teaching and advising Co-op students from the College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP) in creative professional development and career readiness. Roles and responsibilities may shift based on enrollment and programmatic needs. It is expected that faculty hired into this role will have initial primary teaching and advising responsibility for undergraduate Urban Planning students and graduate Community Planning and Landscape Architecture students in the School of Planning.

Teaching within this faculty role is unique. Assistant Professor Educators within the DAAP Co-op Unit engage in traditional classroom instruction as well as instruction and assessment of learning while students are engaged in industry co-op experiences. Co-op instruction may be conducted through individual or small-group advising and may occur in-person, virtually, or asynchronously via instructional platforms. The core responsibility of this position is fostering the professional development of students and preparing them for a post-grad life of personal and professional fulfillment.

Primary responsibilities that support DAAP Co-op student success include teaching professional development courses for School of Planning majors, engaging in small group or individual instruction centered around reflective practice, advising on creative portfolio development, designing curricula in alignment with student needs and the goals of DAAP and CCPS, organizing lessons and workshops that support learning outcomes, facilitating and providing mentorship through student position searches, utilizing Learning Management Systems and preparing materials that are universally accessible (ADA Compliant), cultivating a sense of belonging for students, and working collaboratively with our Industry Engagement team and industry partners to create employment opportunities for students.

Track, Service, and Scholarly Activities

Educator track faculty typically engage in Service to their academic unit, college, partner colleges, university, and profession by serving on committees and task forces. Scholarly and Professional activities typically involve research that leads to presentation and/or publication, including but not limited to understanding the impact of their teaching methods. Scholarly and Professional activities may also include professional development, creative or industry contributions, and demonstrated application of skills or knowledge acquired.

This position is Educator track and candidates are not eligible for Tenure.
