Head of School

Exciting Opportunity to Lead a Respected Montessori Community

The Board of Trustees of The New School Montessori invites applications for the position of Head of School for the  academic year. This is an exceptional opportunity for a mission-driven educational leader to guide a thriving Montessori community with more than 50 years of history, strong enrollment, committed families, and a culture rooted in authentic Montessori practice.

The next Head of School will build upon a strong foundation while helping shape the school's next chapter of growth, innovation, and community impact. The successful candidate will champion Montessori excellence, strengthen enrollment, foster community engagement, develop faculty and staff, ensure operational excellence, and partner closely with the Board of Trustees.

Situated within Cincinnati's historic North Avondale neighborhood, TNSM occupies a wooded campus in a quiet residential setting. The campus includes three distinctive buildings: the historic Mitchell Mansion, the Ginkgo House, and the recently completed Kaleidoscope Center. Together they provide inspiring learning spaces that support Montessori principles of exploration, independence, and discovery.

The Kaleidoscope Center, completed in 2024, includes performance and gathering spaces, art studios, flexible learning environments, and administrative offices. The campus also features a newly developed Learning Garden that serves as an outdoor classroom supporting environmental education, stewardship, and experiential learning.

TNSM nurtures the intellectual, social, emotional, physical, creative, and ethical development of every child. Students benefit from academic excellence, outdoor learning, visual and performing arts, social-emotional learning, leadership opportunities, and peace education.

A distinctive feature of the school is its celebrated lunch program. TNSM maintains an on-site kitchen and provides freshly prepared hot lunches daily. The program emphasizes healthy, nutritious meals, vegetarian options, and food education experiences that reinforce Montessori principles and community values. Families frequently identify the lunch program as one of the school's most valued offerings.

This position offers a rare combination of strengths that are increasingly difficult to find in independent education:

• More than 50 years of history and institutional stability
• Dual AMS and ISACS accreditation
• A highly engaged and loyal parent community
• A beautiful wooded campus in one of Cincinnati's most desirable neighborhoods
• Three unique campus buildings, including the newly completed Kaleidoscope Center
• A newly developed Learning Garden supporting outdoor and experiential learning
• A beloved school lunch program that reflects the school's whole-child philosophy
• Strong enrollment reputation and broad community support
• Opportunity to shape the next chapter of strategic growth and innovation
• The ability to lead a school where relationships, purpose, and student-centered learning remain at the heart of every decision

The ideal candidate will possess successful educational leadership experience, Montessori credentialing with a deep appreciation for its philosophy, exceptional communication skills, financial and operational acumen, and the ability to build trust across all stakeholder groups. Experience in Montessori and/or independent school leadership is highly desirable.
