GeneralDescription
Under general supervision, the Senior Engineering Technician may perform intermediate to senior technical duties in both office and field settings in support of the Engineer’s Office. Tasks may include preparing, modifying, and reviewing designs, drawings, plans, layouts, and other project documentation for construction projects; reviewing proposed construction plans and specifications; ensuring compliance with applicable state and county regulations. Specific responsibilities will vary based on departmental needs and project requirements.
PotentialAreas of Work
- Planning, design, Computer Aided Drafting/Design (CADD), Geographic Information Systems (GIS), construction management, studies, computations, land surveying, land record management, asset management, or field operations.
Associate’s degree from an accredited college with major coursework in Engineering Technology, Computer Aided Design (CAD) Technology, GIS Technology, Construction Technology, or related field; and four (4) years’ work experience in contract and project administration; or equivalent combination. Must possess ability to effectively lead and manage activities of other team members, assign daily activities, document performance measurements, provide professional feedback, and complete evaluations.
Licensure/ Certification Requirements
Valid state residency driver’s license and remain insurable under the County’s vehicle insurance policy.

Job Duties (Essential Functions)- Collaborate with internal teams and external partners.
- Assist in preparation and review of design drawings, layouts, contract plans, and specifications.
- Help prepare project documentation such as quantity estimates, bid documents, right‑of‑way plans, and legal descriptions.
- Review plans and specifications to verify compliance with agreements, project requirements, state and local construction specifications.
- Make drafting changes to plans and assist townships with contracts for programs like the Road Resurfacing Program.
- Participate in project teams and prepare related documentation.
- Participate in field investigations and research findings for various projects.
- Complete standardized transportation system asset condition assessments and update inventories using modern office and field equipment.
- Investigate complaints, prepare reports, recommend solutions.
