Project Planner
Location: Chepstow (hybrid working)
Salary: £55-65k (negotiable), car allowance and benefits package.
Client: A fast‑growing mechanical and civil organisation providing construction and infrastructure services to the highly regulated oil, gas, water and power generation sectors. Services include manufacture of high‑pressure pipe systems and associated civil, mechanical and electrical works. Frameworks with Gas Distribution Networks (Cadent, Wales & West Utilities, Northern Gas Network). Contracts with oil organisations such as Exolum, BP, Bristol Port, and private networks including University of Bath and MOD.
Role: Support project and resource planning, centralise the process to increase capacity, capability, quality and control. The planner will work with 5‑10 small and medium‑sized construction projects (≈ £100 k‑£1.5 m). Opportunity to grow and shape the planning department.
Software: Currently MS Project; future transition to Primavera.
Responsibilities- Control project plans, provide weekly progress updates, capture and report changes in line with contractual obligations.
- Support broader delivery and resource schedules and provide technical planning support to the tendering team.
- Work with project teams to integrate time and cost.
- Ensure the month‑end reporting process is supported and achieved by the project teams.
- Promote development and coordination of schedules at project level ensuring alignment and integration.
- Apply critical‑path analysis and minimise organisational risk by identifying the critical path for contracts.
- Produce progress reports showing variance against baselines.
- Enable Project Management to control progress of contracts by identifying and producing integrated programmes of work, monitoring performance against plans and identifying problem areas.
- Enable control of procurement progress by producing schedules for all materials and equipment, updating regularly and analysing implications of updates.
- Extensive planning experience, ideally within the oil or gas sectors.
- Civil, general engineering or construction experience. Specialist expertise within the business is highly valued.
- Sound understanding of planning skills and programming.
- Clear understanding of contractual elements linked to a programme and skills in claim situations.
- Qualification in a construction or engineering related discipline preferred.
- Working knowledge of CDM and construction Health & Safety.
