Principal Accountabilities (summary)
Reporting directly to the Senior Maintenance & Reliability Manager, the Senior Controls Technician is responsible for programming, troubleshooting, and maintaining control systems across the site. This role plays a critical part in supporting the overall manufacturing process by executing control system upgrades, supporting engineering changes, and contributing to cross-departmental initiatives. The Senior Controls Technician also assists with the implementation of new tools and processes and provides training and technical guidance to other maintenance personnel.

The Senior Controls Technician also assists with the implementation of new tools and processes and provides training and technical guidance to other maintenance personnel.

Licenses
- Associate’s (A.S.) degree in Electronics Technology, Automation, Mechatronics, or related field (or a combination of education and experience).
- Operating knowledge of Microsoft office software and working proficiency with handheld computer (i.e. Smartphone, Tablet/iPad).
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a manufacturing or system integrator having worked with the following systems:
- Wonderware System Platform
- Rockwell Suite of Software:
Studio 5000 / RS Logix 5000, Factory Talk - Minimum of 3 years of experience designing, programming, and troubleshooting PLCs, preferably Allen-Bradley systems.
- coLOS, Maple and other software experience preferred.
- Independently program, maintain, and troubleshoot controls systems across all areas of the plant.
- Interpret and apply electrical schematics and control diagrams to perform complex troubleshooting.
- Utilize advanced diagnostic tools (e.g., multimeters, software analyzers) to resolve controls-related issues efficiently.
- Modify and support HMI, SCADA systems, MES (e.g., Wonderware, Maple, manu
FACT) to meet operational needs. - Maintain and troubleshoot industrial networks (Ether Net/IP).
- Lead field integration of control systems during equipment upgrades and installations, including wiring, programming, and testing.
- Document all control system changes in compliance with MOC procedures and site documentation standards.
- Maintain updated backups and detailed records for all automation software and hardware configurations.
- Interpret manufacturing sequences and equipment functions to support effective system troubleshooting and integration.
- Collect and analyze system performance data, contributing to continuous improvement discussions and corrective actions.
- Support project specifications by implementing changes based on engineering direction and equipment documentation.
- Collaborate with maintenance and production to reduce downtime.
- Lead root cause analysis activities related to recurring automation issues and recommend corrective actions.
- Act as a technical resource for technicians, providing guidance and informal mentoring on controls troubleshooting.
- Install, configure, and maintain field instrumentation (eg., sensors, actuators, VFDs).
- Recommend system improvements based on observed performance.
- Assist engineering teams on capital projects through field-level execution and feedback.
- Ensure all work complies with site safety standards.
- Support functional safety system testing and basic troubleshooting.
- Supports audits, inspections, and risk assessments related to control systems.
