Job Description Summary The F110-XBAT SPOCT Leader will perform critical engineering functions for a disruptive, first of its kind afterburning VTOL aircraft. Systems engineering is a cross‑functional discipline focused on an approach, mindset, and process that considers both business and technical needs of the customers with the goal of providing a quality product that meets user needs. The discipline executes a robust process of design, creation and optimization of systems, including identification and quantification of system requirements, alternate design concepts, design trade studies, selection and implementation of best designs and verification that the design is properly integrated and executed, proceeding from concept to production to operation.
The role impacts the team's ability to achieve service, quality and timeliness objectives and requires moderate autonomy and high levels of operational judgment.
- Responsible for ensuring operability and performance of the F110 in Shield AI's X-Bat aircraft, including incorporation of the engine's AVEN (Axisymmetric Vectoring Exhaust Nozzle)
- Execute program objectives in a dynamic, fast‑paced environment with a novel airframer and a startup culture.
- Conduct component and product integration across multiple components and products for maximum performance and operability; manage product and systems requirements, specifications, flow down; drive validation and verification activities including system‑level testing; define product requirements for modules, components, subcontractors and partners; manage interface between components and execution organizations; drive CTQ/Risk trades for component design; manage overall product configuration and configuration control system.
- Influence development of strategy for the area of responsibility, including control of resources and influencing policy formulation.
- Interpret business challenges and recommend best practices to improve products, processes or services; stay informed of industry trends.
- Use high level of judgment to make decisions and handle complex tasks or problems across product management, manufacturing, technology or engineering; assess quality of information, ask pertinent questions, propose solutions outside of set parameters and provide recommendations using multiple internal and some external sources.
- Lead functional teams or projects with minimal resource requirements, risk and complexity; communicate difficult concepts and influence others’ options on particular topics.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited university or college
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in systems engineering
- Understanding of SPOCT (Systems, Performance, Operability, Controls and Transient) principles spanning multiple disciplines for F110 or similar engines.
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. No visa sponsorship will be provided.
The base pay range for this position is $ – $. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus based on a percentage of your base salary. The posting will close on December 15, 2025.
