Overview

POSITION

PURPOSE:

Performs complex analytical work in providing office and engineering support and field engineering support for environmental, water, sewer, street and other public works projects and programs ensuring technical competence and compliance with all current codes and criteria. Manage, supervise and guide building engineers. Provide bid pricing, supervision and management for TI and Capital Projects.

• Determines work procedures, prepares work schedules and expedites workflow.
• Issues written and oral instructions
• Assigns duties and examines work for exactness, neatness and conformance to policies and procedures.
• Studies and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency of engineering subordinates.
• Maintains harmony among workers and resolves grievances.
• Prepares composite reports from individual reports of subordinates.
• Prepares and documents budget requests; administers adopted budget in department.
• Assists subordinates in performing duties, as needed.
• Reviews private project development plans for compliance with codes, regulations and standards, adequacy of applications for permits and compliance with approved plans.
• Determines applicable codes, regulations and requirements for assigned projects.
• Work closely with Architects & Engineers to establish the requirements for the construction.
• .Maintains the engineering library and infrastructure records.
• Assures as-built records of projects and documents necessary changes for the operation and maintenance programs.
• Responds to inquiries relative to engineering procedures on specific projects and other information.

Exercises supervision over the building engineer staff assigned to the department.
