Macdonald & Company is partnered with a well established and growing commercial real estate investment, development, and operating firm based in Cincinnati, Ohio, to appoint a Financial Controller.

The Controller will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer and will oversee all accounting and finance responsibilities across the firm’s portfolio of properties. This includes ownership of financial reporting, budgeting, tax coordination, payroll oversight, and accounting related matters across operating assets as well as development and construction activities.

This role offers meaningful visibility into the business and the opportunity to serve as a key financial leader within a collaborative and execution focused platform.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee and manage all accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, and general ledger reconciliations
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, budgets, and forecasts across operating properties and active development projects
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, laws, and accounting standards relevant to real estate operations, development, and construction
  • Develop, implement, and maintain financial policies and procedures to enhance accuracy, controls, and operational efficiency
  • Monitor project level financials, including cost tracking, draws, billing, and cash flow management
  • Partner closely with development, construction, and operations teams to provide financial insight and support project level decision making
  • Conduct variance analysis and prepare reporting to identify, explain, and address financial discrepancies
  • Lead the preparation of quarterly and annual investor reporting, ensuring accurate and timely communication of financial performance and project updates
  • Manage and coordinate audits, ensuring integrity and consistency of financial reporting
  • Work closely with external CPAs on tax preparation and compliance and support the implementation of tax efficient strategies
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and oversight to accounting and finance team members
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • CPA preferred
  • Minimum of 5 plus years of experience in a financial management or controller level role
  • Prior experience within real estate development, construction, or commercial real estate operations strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, budgeting, and internal controls
  • Proficiency with accounting software and systems and advanced Microsoft Excel capabilities
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work cross functionally and present clearly to senior leadership
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast paced, hands on environment
