Mortgage Cash Recon Researcher III
Under minimal supervision, complete complex cash research and adjustments, post payments and payoffs, and account reconciliation for mortgage, consumer, lease and flexcard products. Responsible for risk management, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures, and delivering a positive customer experience.
Responsibilities- Process complex research and reconciliation adjustments for mortgage, consumer, auto, and lease for missing and misapplied payments.
- Handle Office of the President and other third‑party agency complaints.
- Balance GL and DDA accounts for all product lines, reconcile and clear all outages.
- Perform quality control assessments for offshore staff and provide training and procedural updates as needed.
- Assign workflow tasks across the department.
- Train new and existing employees side‑by‑side.
- Process a large volume of daily cash exceptions from wholesale and retail lockbox, Billpayer, ACH, EMPP and SLK.
- Conduct research and adjust accounts when processing errors occur or payments/payoffs are lost.
- Resolve simple and complex adjustment requests for mortgage, consumer and lease operations.
- Return unauthorized monetary items and coordinate with credit card and commercial loan teams on cash transactions.
- Compile and balance data for reports, general ledger accounts, and entries for processing.
- Maintain appropriate files, reports, and documentation.
- Process debit and/or credit tickets from other areas such as default and retail, ensuring proper posting and balancing.
- Serve as liaison with various departments regarding reconciled or adjusted items.
- Notify customers and correspondent banks of research results and actions taken.
- Recommend improvements to minimize future problems.
- Authorize waivers up to $50.00 on payments and $250.00 on payoffs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None.
Minimum Knowledge & Skills Required- Associate's Degree or equivalent combination of training and experience in a related field.
- Minimum 7 years of mortgage banking or customer service experience.
- Knowledge of mortgage, consumer, auto, and lease fundamentals and their application in a quality control function.
- Knowledge of investor and regulatory guidelines for mortgage, consumer, lease, and card products.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Access (or equivalent database reporting programs).
- Strong customer service, verbal and written communication, and analytical skills.
- Ability to work efficiently with a low margin of error and independently to meet deadlines.
