Job Description

We are looking for a dedicated, security‑minded professional to serve as a Parole Officer in Hamilton County.

Job Duties
  • Under general supervision, oversee offenders and conduct interviews, visits, and observations at residences, workplaces, or community locations.
  • Utilize evidence‑based supervision practices to facilitate behavioral change.
  • Obtain certification in the Ohio Risk Assessment System and complete offender risk assessments as directed.
  • Review documents, records, and reports to develop case plans and assess progress.
  • Provide individual and group advice, including written instructions.
  • Operate electronic monitoring equipment and conduct visual and auditory surveillance.
  • Perform drug and DNA testing, maintaining proper chain of evidence.
  • Help offenders find employment and vocational opportunities, referring to community service agencies.
  • Maintain contact with offender families, friends, employers, and other stakeholders.
  • Manage caseload, analyze needs, and make community referrals.
  • Supervise special populations such as substance abusers, sex offenders, and others requiring specialized training.
  • Conduct and complete placement, arrest, violation, and clemency investigations.
  • Write reports for judges, parole administrators, and parole board members.
  • Use field officer tools to record offender case activity.
  • Travel to offender homes, courts, jails, and other sites via personal or state vehicle.
  • Prepare packets for Parole Board hearings and screen inmates for eligibility.
  • Respond to inmate inquiries and conduct investigations as required.
  • Facilitate special hearings and provide search warrants, subpoenas, and other legal documents.
  • Preserve evidence and manage related documentation.
  • Testify and examine witnesses when necessary.
  • Train and oversee staff, providing orientation and ongoing training.
  • Conduct background investigations and coordinate with community agencies.
  • Participate in community councils, agencies, and prevention programs.
  • Act as liaison with state hospitals and present pre‑release programs.
  • Perform all duties in compliance with Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction Standards of Employee Conduct.

Qualifications

Associate’s degree from an accredited institution with 2 years of experience in criminal justice, corrections, law enforcement, social service, or related field; OR Bachelor’s degree with same qualifications; OR equivalent of minimum class qualifications. Must have no legal prohibition against carrying firearms, valid driver’s license, and have successfully passed a parole officer assessment within the past 12 months or currently hold certified parole officer status.
