Overview
The Division of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center is recruiting a Clinical Pathology faculty member to lead the Diagnostic Infectious Diseases Testing Laboratory, a section of the central clinical laboratory. The Director will oversee the technical operations of the bacteriology, virology, mycology, and parasitology areas, collaboratively oversee infectious disease serology, and provide consultative services for clinicians in all infectious disease laboratory testing areas.
Activities of the Diagnostic Infectious Diseases Testing Laboratory include routine testing across all sub-disciplines of microbiology, involvement in the institution’s Antimicrobial Stewardship Program, and the implementation of advanced molecular platforms to enhance sensitivity and specificity while reducing turnaround times for critical pediatric infectious diseases, including sepsis diagnosis, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, and the detection of STIs.
- Oversee technical operations of the bacteriology, virology, mycology, and parasitology areas within the Diagnostic Infectious Diseases Testing Laboratory.
- Collaboratively oversee infectious disease serology and provide consultative services to clinicians in all infectious disease laboratory testing areas.
- Perform routine testing across all sub-disciplines of microbiology and contribute to the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program.
- Implement and optimize advanced molecular platforms to improve sensitivity, specificity, and turnaround times for critical pediatric infectious disease testing, including sepsis diagnosis, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, and STI detection.
- Collaborate with the central clinical laboratory leadership and staff to ensure high-quality service to patients, families, and clinical staff, and to advance research and development related to laboratory testing.
- Support teaching and education for medical students, residents, fellows, laboratory staff, and clinical staff.
- Contribute to compliance with College of American Pathologists (CAP) standards and governmental regulations.
- Engage in independent and collaborative research focusing on translational and clinically applied projects.
- Board-certified Clinical Microbiologist with fellowship training in Medical Microbiology. PhD or MD/DO candidates will be considered;
Ohio medical license eligibility is required for MD/DO candidates. - At least three years of clinical laboratory leadership experience is preferred; well-qualified fellows in clinical microbiology will also be considered.
- Ability to support all sub-disciplines of Microbiology. Experience in susceptibility testing, laboratory automation, pediatric laboratory medicine, molecular diagnostics, and BSL-3 laboratory operations is preferred.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills; ability to work in a collaborative environment across divisions and institutions.
- Commitment to teaching and to supporting an educational program for medical students, technologists, residents, fellows, laboratory staff, and clinical staff.
- Willingness to pursue opportunities for independent and collaborative research.
