Anterior Segment Testing Technician – Blue Ash

. The position specializes in performing a variety of anterior segment testing as part of patient care, reporting to the Clinic Manager.

Summary

This position specializes in performing a variety of anterior segment testing. While total patient care is the main objective, this position focuses on the testing component of patient care.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform biometry testing and evaluate results
  • Perform and evaluate keratometry
  • Perform and evaluate A-scans; contact and immersion
  • Manual white to white
  • Determine dominant eye
  • Perform auto refraction and auto keratometry
  • Perform corneal topography
  • Perform pachymetry
  • Estimate anterior chamber depth
  • Perform ECC photography
  • Perform post-refractive surgery patient work up
  • Perform UBMs
Additional Testing Lane Responsibilities
  • Evaluating and calculating for IOL power
  • Calculations for IOL power for abnormal/challenging conditions (e.g., micro ophthalmia, subluxed lens, silicone filled eye)
  • Evaluating and calculating for Toric IOL optimization of A-constants
  • General Medical:
    Includes understanding of CPR, basic anatomy and physiology, systemic disease, ocular disease and ocular emergencies.
  • This position is responsible for daily communication with patients, fellow technicians, and physicians. May provide training assistance or may perform general technician duties.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education and/or Experience
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Associates degree or equivalent from two‑year college or technical school preferred.
  • Previous specialized testing experience preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) certification required.
  • Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) certification preferred.
Systems and Technology
  • Regularly uses ophthalmic equipment/devices per sub‑specialty requirement such as keratometer, phoropter, visual acuity measuring/B‑VAT, ultrasound unit, specular microscopy unit, corneal topography unit, retinoscope, slit lamp microscope. Other equipment may be used as needed.
  • Telephone, computer, fax, printer and copier.
Physical Requirements
  • This role requires a variety of physical activities to effectively perform essential job functions. The position involves frequent walking (75%), sitting (50%), standing (50%), with regular bending, stooping, and reaching (25‑50%). Employees must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull items up to 25 lbs. Strong fine‑motor skills and full use of hands are essential, as the role demands constant grasping, writing/typing, and use of technology.

    Visual and auditory acuity—including color, depth, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus—is required 100 % of the time. Occasional driving or climbing may also be necessary.
