Patient Access Coordinator – Radiology Imaging – Ft. Wright E2 – Full Time – Days
Position Overview:
Obtain and verify personal, demographic, and financial information to ensure quality patient care and maximal reimbursement. Responsibilities include scanning identification documents into OnBase, obtaining EMTALA notification signatures, notifying clinical staff of critical conditions, and maintaining accurate insurance information on patient accounts.
- Analytical Skills
Analyze patient accounts; evaluate financial data to establish current accounts and document actions taken to maximize reimbursement. Maintain knowledge of current HMO/PPO/Medicaid/Medicare/commercial insurance regulations. Determine insurance coverage hierarchy, complete required MSPQ questionnaires, obtain and document clinical referrals, coordinate financial assistance, and collect and deposit co‑payments.
- Clinical Skills
Process Emergency and Obstetrics by notifying appropriate staff. Answer and direct incoming calls from physician offices, ancillary departments, and other facilities; provide inquiries concerning hospital policies.
- Compliance Skills
Obtain signatures for all revenue cycle documentation. Prepare charts, collect forms and photocopies of insurance cards, distribute and witness signatures on patient advanced directive forms, and refer patients to appropriate personnel.
- Communication & Interpretation Skills
Interview patients and obtain, verify, and enter complete and accurate demographic and financial information. Assess and update information at each encounter, determine financial plans and coverage priority, and communicate effectively to meet or exceed customer service goals.
- Education & Leadership Skills
Provide education and training/mentoring for other staff members; attend department meetings and review procedural and process changes per facility guidelines.
- Education – High School Diploma, Associate’s Degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Years of Experience – One to three years in registration, billing, customer service, or a managed care organization. Must acquire knowledge of hospital medical staff rules and infection control policies.
- Knowledge and Skills
- Analytical skills to make decisions based on clinical situations.
- Computer literacy: use of Epic, Passport, OnBase, Microsoft Office, and Midas.
- Ability to use Internet access and third‑party payer systems for eligibility and verification.
- Knowledge of health insurance coverage requirements.
- Excellent communication, problem‑solving, and customer service skills; ability to remain flexible, organized, and effective under stress.
- Understanding of medical terminology and acuity levels.
- Licenses & Certifications
- Annual Registration Competency Review with 95% or greater score.
- Yearly STAT testing completed.
