Job Description

Obtain and verify appropriate personal, demographic and financial information to ensure quality patient care and maximize reimbursement. Responsibilities include scanning identification documents into OnBase, obtaining EMTALA notification signatures, notifying clinical staff for critical conditions, and placing insurance information on accounts.

Responsibilities
  • Analyze patient accounts and financial data to maximize reimbursement.
  • Maintain knowledge of current HMO/PPO/Medicaid/Medicare/commercial insurance regulations.
  • Determine insurance coverage levels (primary, secondary, tertiary).
  • Complete MSPQ questionnaires and document clinical referrals.
  • Coordinate financial assistance with Financial Counselor.
  • Collect and deposit required co‑payments.
  • Initiate online verification of third‑party insurance carriers.
  • Prepare chart documentation for Medicare compliance.
  • Obtain signatures for revenue‑cycle documentation.
  • Process emergency and obstetrics notifications.
  • Answer incoming calls from physician offices, ancillary departments, and other facilities.
  • Maintain productivity standards and account quality guidelines.
  • Provide patient education and training/mentoring for staff.
  • Communicate effectively to meet customer service goals.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or associate’s degree (preferred).
  • 1–3 years experience in registration, billing, customer service, or managed‑care organization.
  • Knowledge of hospital medical staff rules and infection control policies.
  • Strong analytical, computer literacy (Epic, Passport, OnBase, Midas, Microsoft Office).
  • Excellent communication, problem‑solving, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in stressful situations.
  • Understanding of medical terminology and acuity levels.
  • Annual registration competency review score ≥95 % and yearly STAT testing completed.
