Job Description

Responsible for the decontamination, cleaning, processing, and sterilization of trays, instruments, supplies, and equipment following all infection control practices. Responsible for dispensing equipment upon request. Maintains accurate records and departmental inventory usage. Responsible for case cart building and responds to requests from surgery.

Responsibilities

• Perform decontamination functions: disassemble, clean, and disinfect instruments and equipment; operate decontamination equipment; perform cleaning tasks; use universal precautions; retrieve and transport reusable instruments.
• Assemble instrument trays and packs: unload instruments, assemble trays, check instruments for sharpness, memorize instruments, apply sterilization wrappers, heat seal packs, identify items, load sterilizer carriage.
• Operate sterilizers, document loads, and return stock: check trays and basins, operate sterilizers, select correct cycles, document sterilization info, complete biological monitoring, restock sterile supplies, monitor equipment.
• Build surgical cases: obtain surgical preference lists, label location of instruments and supplies, perform quality control checks, restock and return procedural carts.
• Other: fulfill OR requests, assist in training, respond to emergency codes, follow sterility instructions, attend meetings, keep knowledge of the department, act as liaison, manage time priorities.

Qualifications

• Education:
  
  high school diploma or GED.
• Experience:
  
  2 years Central Service experience required.
• Skills/Knowledge: specialized knowledge required (details omitted).

  Certifications:
  
  Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) preferred, must be obtained within the first year of hire.
