Overview
Security Officer
- Resident Assistant (3959-39) 7:00 pm- 7:00 am — Hamilton County, Ohio (River City Correctional Center, 3220 Colerain Avenue, Cincinnati, OH 45225).
Job details: 80 Hours Bi-Weekly, starting salary $17.50 per hour. Open Until Filled.
Responsibilities (Job Duties)- Maintain an atmosphere conducive to agency philosophy and humane living conditions.
- Be aware of resident treatment/habilitation plans and needs, and assist residents in working toward completion of contractual objectives.
- Respond to resident needs and conflicts in a preventative fashion to reduce volatile situations.
- Enforce Residential Program Rules and Regulations and follow reporting procedures for violations.
- Monitor resident movement following facility procedures and sign-in/sign-out procedures.
- Provide wake-up services during on-duty hours.
- Monitor resident curfews and record appropriately.
- May be required to conduct urinalysis according to established procedures.
- Handle crisis and emergency situations, call for assistance when needed, and document incidents per agency policy.
- Report positive or negative resident behavior incidents per reporting procedures.
- Assist in supervising Center recreational activities and resident visitation, ensuring policies are followed and documentation completed.
- Assist with resident intake/orientation procedures and document as required.
- May transport residents and facility employees/documents as requested.
- Read and record shift activities in the log book; conduct head counts, isolation checks, facility shakedowns, and resident searches.
- Monitor, identify and document all individuals entering and leaving the River City Correctional Center.
- Supervise, direct and evaluate completion of resident housekeeping assignments; ensure supplies are available and used properly.
- Adhere to the facility key control system; dispense/receive linens for residents.
- Supervise meal service, including seating and monitoring dietary restrictions; assist with serving if necessary.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of information handled in the facility.
- Remain alert during shift and communicate with on-duty personnel about any unusual situations.
- Answer facility telephone in absence of Receptionist and monitor resident business calls.
- Support and cooperate with other facility staff to meet program needs.
- On-call in case of scheduling problems or emergencies.
- Transport residents to community resources as needed.
- Enforce facility rules and schedule.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Any combination of training and work experience indicating the listed skills, knowledge and abilities.
- Associate Degree from an accredited institution is preferred.
- One year of working experience in criminal justice, preferably in a correctional facility, is highly desirable.
- Possession of a valid Ohio Operator’s License.

- Ability to remain calm in tense situations and read/prepare reports.
Correctional facility setting, moderate noise.
Physical DemandsSignificant standing, walking, sitting, listening, and reaching; ability to recognize signs of substance abuse; ability to intervene in crisis situations.
