Principal accountabilities include planning, directly participating in and documenting all aspects of the nutritional care of patients in assigned areas. Performs nutritional assessment and documents nutrition diagnosis based on guidelines outlined by the nutrition care process. Discusses the nutrition diagnosis and provides nutrition counseling that outlines nutrition goals with patient, families, and other team members when possible. Collaborates with internal and external resources to implement nutritional care plan.

Monitor and evaluates the effectiveness of the patient’s nutrition care plan and revises plan as needed. Relates basic principles of nutrition to staff, health care team members and community. Reviews current research to enhance professional practice. Serves on at least one hospital committee and provides feedback positively impacting decisions that affect the department, hospital and community. Demonstrates awareness of professional time management and uses time efficiently and productively.

• As of 1/1/24: new practitioners must have a Master’s Degree in Dietetics, or a Bachelor’s Degree if eligible or registered prior to 1/1/24.
• Dietetic limited permit accepted upon hire.
• Required to pass RD exam within 6 months of hire date. Applicants not on a limited permit are required to have both Ohio Licensure AND Registration.
• General clinical knowledge of adult learning principles.
• Up to 1 year’s experience in a related field.

• Utilize all components of the Nutrition Care Process in care planning. Write appropriate PES statements and document discharge plan consistently.
• Evaluate and monitor the effects of nutrition plans and practices and make changes as needed. Keep abreast of new nutrition research through continuing education opportunities, attending at least one educational session in focus area of practice a year, and updating CDR education record.
• Assess patient’s learning needs including cultural and religious beliefs, emotional and age specific barriers, desire and motivation to learn, and diet history when completing patient education. Individualize intervention goals and ensure documentation is complete per department standards.
• Complete a small project or bright idea such as updating a non‑patient educational clinical resource, publishing a nutrition article, conducting an education session on unit, or organizing a journal club reviewing research articles with a group of Clinical Dietitians.
• Demonstrate effective time management, meeting patient ratio goals on average. Show flexibility and adjust schedule to meet daily needs.
• Create a welcoming atmosphere for new hires and interns. Review trainees’ documentation, observe their patient interactions, and provide constructive feedback consistently during training.
• Provide constructive feedback to move initiatives forward during department discussions and meetings.
