UC Health is hiring a full-time Certified Pharmacy Technician in Specialty Pharmacy at University of Cincinnati’s Medical Center.

Pharmacy technicians assist pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications, maintaining the drug inventory, and maintaining patient records. They work under the supervision of a registered pharmacist and do not perform duties that can legally be performed by only a registered pharmacist.

In addition to responsibilities for a Tech I, Pharmacy Technician II demonstrates a high level of initiative, motivation, and competency in specialized areas of the department.

Qualifications
  • Education:

    Recent certification, licensure, or graduation within past 12 months; minimum three to five years equivalent experience.
  • License and Certification:
    Current pharmacy technician registration and certification recognized by the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Skills & Knowledge:
    Accurate work with attention to detail within specified time periods; cooperative teamwork; adaptability; priority setting; problem solving; emergency response; effective written and oral communication; assistance in meeting pharmaceutical care needs of patients.
Responsibilities
  • Procure and distribute medication orders per prescriber request or pharmacist request, following established policies and protocols.
  • Fill physician orders, medication kits, carts, and requisitions accurately.
  • Replenish medications in emergency drug containers and floor stock areas.
  • Prepare intravenous admixtures and other sterile preparations (including chemotherapy and parenteral nutrition) safely and accurately.
  • Deliver medications and supplies to patient care and ancillary areas on schedule.
  • Maintain adequate stock according to established policies.
  • Pickup orders and medications for return from patient care areas during delivery rounds.
  • Enter medication orders into pharmacy computer system accurately.
  • Generate reports, pick lists, and labels as required.
  • Answer telephone calls, identify self and department, and direct calls appropriately.
  • Answer window/door requests and make Stat deliveries to patient care as requested.
  • Organize and prioritize work assignments.
  • Maintain logs, records, and required documentation accurately.
  • Keep pharmacy areas clean and equipment well-maintained.
  • Complete and document monthly medication storage area inspections. Identify and replace outdated medications.
  • Collect data, conduct quality monitors, and complete assigned documentation.
  • Own and maintain a quality improvement project for the department; present annual updates.
  • Meet and perform according to hospital and department standards of performance.
Compensation

The expected starting salary range for this position is between $19.42/hr and $24.01/hr actual pay will depend on experience, skills, and organizational factors.
