Payroll Specialist
The Payroll Specialist is responsible for accurately processing weekly payroll for approximately 1,000 employees, including a spill team, across multiple states. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including prevailing wage requirements for select states, while maintaining confidentiality and accuracy in all payroll-related activities. This position is temp to hire and will pay between $28 and $34/hr.
Base pay range$28.00/hr - $34.00/hr
Responsibilities
- Process weekly payroll for a multi-state workforce of about 1,000 employees (including spill team members) using ADP payroll software.
- Ensure compliance with prevailing wage laws for applicable states and other relevant labor regulations.
- Administer and track PTO (Paid Time Off) accruals and process PTO payouts as required.
- Review and validate timekeeping data for accuracy prior to payroll submission.
- Maintain accurate employee records, including tax with holdings, deductions (such as boot and uniform deductions), and direct deposit information.
- Process and report child support and other garnishments in compliance with federal and state requirements, including reporting to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics as needed.
- Prepare and reconcile certified payroll reports for government contracts and internal/external stakeholders.
- Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll, deductions, PTO, and tax forms in a timely and professional manner.
- Collaborate with HR and Finance teams to ensure proper handling of new hires, terminations, and changes in compensation.
- Stay current on payroll regulations and system updates to ensure ongoing compliance and efficiency.
Qualifications
- Proven experience processing payroll for large employee groups across multiple states.
- Strong knowledge of prevailing wage requirements (for select states), certified payroll, and multi-state payroll regulations.
- Experience with PTO management, garnishments, and deduction processing.
- Proficiency in ADP payroll systems and related reporting tools.
- High attention to detail and ability to meet strict deadlines.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
