Job Responsibilities
- Design, build, test and manage simple to moderately complex data pipelines from data sources or acquisition endpoints to integration and consumption for production, supporting key data and analytics consumers such as business/data analysts and data scientists. Ensure compliance with data governance and data security requirements while creating, improving and ope rationalising pipelines, partnering effectively with platform engineers and database administrators. Follow best‑practice development to support agile updates from development to production and back.
Make moderate changes to ETL processes and support upgrade and testing initiatives as necessary. Pursue additional options for extracting and analysing data from the Epic source system to meet research, regulatory and collaborative needs. Understand benchmarking and process‑improvement data requirements and develop solutions to address these requests. Develop solutions to ensure analytic data pipelines do not interfere with transactional systems. - Develop and implement simple to moderately complex data models to support CCHMC strategies. Work with key customer and report/analytic groups to ensure scalable and efficient solutions. Document data models and extraction processes so information can be referenced by team members and customers to understand design objectives. Use innovative tools, techniques and architectures to partially or fully automate common, repeatable and tedious data preparation and integration tasks, minimising manual and error‑prone processes and improving productivity.
Continually refine existing solutions to deploy best practices in reports, database structure and extraction techniques. Work with vendors when necessary to ensure CCHMC investments and requests are adequately supported and enhanced. Address reporting requests that require more complex solutions or deeper knowledge of source‑system data models. - Proficiency in one or more data management practices and architectures (e.g., data modelling, data warehousing, data lake, data hub) and a foundational understanding of the others. Proficient with SQL, object‑oriented/object‑function scripting and Dev Ops principles. Demonstrate understanding of core CCHMC clinical, business and research processes to build appropriate data solutions. Obtain Epic certifications as appropriate/needed. Build additional skills through continuing education.
- Ensure outstanding end‑user support, including monitoring SLAs for incident management and collaborating with other areas to ensure customer‑centred incident management and support. Adhere to and promote change‑management policies and procedures. Model outstanding customer‑service behaviour, with timely and effective follow‑up. Escalate support issues with urgency. Collaborate with stakeholders, especially data‑science teams and business (data) analysts, to refine data requirements for initiatives and consumption.
Provide second‑level incident and problem resolution and support departmental efforts to improve customer satisfaction. Maintain and refine support documentation. Take 24‑hour call on a staff rotation. - Execute own project tasks with urgency and high quality. Communicate status clearly using departmental project‑management tools. Follow time‑tracking and other project‑management requirements. Participate actively in project meetings, stand‑ups, etc. Serve as technical lead for moderately complex projects, collaborating with project managers to ensure scope, risk, budget and other factors are adequately managed. Lead project meetings and work groups.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, statistics, applied mathematics, data management, information systems, information science or a related quantitative field.
- 2+ years of work experience in a related job discipline.
- Preferred:
Experience working in cross‑functional teams and collaborating with business stakeholders in support of departmental and/or multi‑departmental data‑management and analytics initiatives.
