Work Hours: Intermittent, as needed - based on the facility needs
Starting Salary: $28.00 an hour

Requirements (Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification)
  • Graduate of an accredited program for practical or vocational nursing.
  • Hold a current license to practice nursing as a licensed practical nurse issued by Ohio Board of Nursing pursuant to Section 4723 Ohio Revised Code & proof of completion of an approved course in medication administration.
  • Current certification for Basic Life Support (BLS) including CPR and AED for Healthcare Professionals.
  • A valid driver’s license in the state of residence and proof of auto insurance upon hire and both are to be maintained throughout employment.
Job Duties (Summary)
  • Utilize knowledge and expertise to ensure that nursing processes and systems are followed appropriately according to policies and procedures, accreditation standards and scope of nursing practice.
  • Able to demonstrate critical thinking skills to independently and confidently provide nursing care as needed to patients within the correctional setting.
  • Perform all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, peers and employees at all levels within the organization.
  • Collect and document data related to patients’ initial intake information, vital signs, treatments and other pertinent information within the scope of nursing practice.
  • Observe, record and report changes in patients’ conditions to Nursing Supervisor and/or Medical Director within a timely manner.
  • Ability to respond, assist and/or take action in all healthcare related emergency situations.
  • Administer and document medication under physician’s order and follows the five (5) medication rights and reduces the potential for medical error.
  • Assist the Medical Director, Certified Nurse Practitioner, Psychologist and Nursing Supervisor with examinations of patients.
  • Perform select clinical tests including, but not limited to; urinalysis, urine culture and sensitivity, pregnancy tests, blood glucose monitoring, influenza and strep test.
  • Ability to perform clerical duties as needed to maintain a safe, clean organized medical office.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality with respect to information maintained in medical records.

Skills And Abilities
  • Considerable knowledge of nursing/medical care.
  • Knowledge of substance abuse and substance dependency.
  • Ability to relate with people, listen and resolve problems effectively.
  • Demonstration of a high degree of organizational skills.
  • Working knowledge of standards and policies and procedures regarding medical services provided by the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction.
  • Visual ability to effectively operate necessary medical equipment as well as office equipment including copier, facsimile machine and audio visual aids.
  • Hearing ability sufficient to communicate effectively with other individuals both in person and over a telephone.
  • Speaking ability sufficient to communicate effectively with other individuals both in person and over a telephone.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw conclusions.
Working Conditions

Correctional Center setting with direct inmate contact.

Physical Demands

Work involves a significant amount of standing, walking, sitting, talking, listening, stooping and reaching with hands and arms.

Communications

Conveys and receives information in person and over the telephone.

Employee benefits are included but are not limited to employees regularly schedule to work an average of thirty (30) hours or more per week. Medical insurance coverage through United Health Care, dental, vision, vacation, sick leave, 15 observed paid holidays, employer paid life insurance, and Ohio Public Employees Retirement (OPERS) where employees contribute 10% of their pay on a pre-tax basis and the employer contributes 14%.
