Provides unit-based leadership and support to associates; delivers patient care using the nursing process through data collection and assessment, identifies and determines the priority of the patient’s problems/needs, and evaluates the process and outcome of nursing care; coordinates, provides and directs patient teaching activities and coordinates the care provided by health team members.

- In collaboration with the interdisciplinary care team, conduct initial and ongoing patient assessment, analyze assessment data, create a plan of care, implement treatment, and evaluate treatment effectiveness.
- Administer medications in a safe manner consistent with the State of Ohio Nursing Practice Act and Mercy Health policies and procedures.
- Provide leadership to staff in a collaborative environment that offers job satisfaction, education, empowerment, recognition, and stimulates innovative thinking.
- Assess and maintain staffing levels responsive to patient care needs and optimize productivity.
- Provide staff coaching and ongoing performance feedback, communicate job standards and expectations, and lead regular meetings with employees to foster effective communication.
- Act as a patient safety advocate by participating in ongoing quality improvement in the department.
- Incorporate the professional practice model into care delivery.
- At least one year of experience as an RN in an acute environment.
- Required minimum education:
Associate Degree in Nursing (2 years). - Preferred education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (4 years). - Current nursing license in the State of Ohio.
- Licensure and certifications (must be non‑expired/active unless otherwise stated):
- Emergency Department – ACLS/PALS
- Med Surg/Telemetry – BLS required, ACLS encouraged.
- Step Down – ACLS required with 6 months of hire.
- ICU/CVU – ACLS required.
- Family Birth – BLS and NRP required; NCCc‑EFM within 18 months of hire required.
- Perioperative – BLS required.
- Cath Lab – ACLS required.
- Cardiac Pulmonary Rehab – ACLS required.
- PACU – ACLS and PALS required.
- Preferred certifications:
National certification in clinical specialty or leadership. - Preferred:
Previous charge nurse experience.
