Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP-CRNFA) or Physician Assistant (PA)

Cincinnati Children’s is an internationally recognized leader in pediatric and congenital heart surgery and transplantation
. The Cardio-Thoracic Surgery team manages complex cardiac conditions for patients from before birth through adulthood. The program performs roughly 600 cardiothoracic surgeries each year
, including 15–20 heart, lung, and multi‑organ transplants annually
. Families travel from over 48 states and 22 countries to receive care from our world‑renowned Heart Institute team.

Position Highlights

We seek a dedicated Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) with CRNFA certification or Physician Assistant to serve as a vital member of our multidisciplinary, family‑centered care team.

Schedule & Coverage
  • Shifts:

    7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
  • Hours:

    Average 40 hours per week
  • Flexibility required for patient care, including weekends, holidays, and on‑call coverage
  • Scheduling is managed in 6‑week blocks:
    • Two weeks of four 12‑hour shifts
    • Four weeks of three 12‑hour shifts
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive care for cardiothoracic surgery patients across the continuum
  • Participate in outpatient clinics, including pre‑operative evaluations
  • Round on inpatients and manage post‑operative care
  • Assist in the operating room, including first‑assist duties as applicable
  • Participate in weekday and weekend call rotations, responding on‑site for emergent cases as needed
  • Collaborate closely with surgeons, intensivists, nursing, and ancillary teams
Qualifications
  • Licensed ACNP with CRNFA certification or licensed PA
  • Eligible for or holding Ohio licensure (multi‑state licensure may be required)
  • Experience in cardiothoracic surgery, critical care, or complex inpatient settings strongly preferred
  • Ability to thrive in a high‑acuity, fast‑paced surgical environment

Job Responsibilities
  • Perform history and physical exams on patients presenting for care, assess and diagnose conditions, and formulate, document, and monitor treatment plans.
  • Order and monitor therapeutic interventions, including diagnostics, interdisciplinary consults, and specialist prescribing per state law.
  • Maintain competency in subspecialty procedures and support quality improvement activities, research, and lifelong learning.
  • Document and communicate with healthcare team members to coordinate integrated delivery of care.
  • Utilize systematic evaluation of outcomes to revise diagnoses, plan of care, and interventions.
Job Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in a related field (Doctorate of Nursing Practice may be required depending on subspecialty).
  • Licensure and certification in accordance with CCHMC Delineation of Privileges.
  • Required multi‑state licensure beyond Ohio, if applicable.
