Job Overview:
This position applies the nursing process in providing direct and indirect holistic care to patients and their families. It collaborates collegially with physicians and other health‑care team members to meet patients’ needs and may delegate aspects of care to those under direct supervision within the scope of nursing practice.
Job Description:
Part‑time Day Shift – Good Sam Hospital
- Associate’s Degree or Diploma in Nursing.
- New hires must obtain a BSN within 5 years of hire.
- BLS; ACLS/PALS may be required depending on unit or department.
- Registered Nurse status.
- Knowledge, judgment, and skills derived from the principles of biological, physical, behavioral, social, and nursing sciences to meet complex health‑care needs at various stages of the life cycle.
- Up to 1 year of clinical experience in nursing.
- Demonstrates organizational responsibilities; identifies areas for self‑improvement through self‑assessment and peer review.
- Provides leadership on the unit as needed and requested; collaborates with instructors to facilitate learning experiences for students.
- Supports organizational activities such as committees, staff meetings, and councils; utilizes chain of command appropriately.
- Builds collegial relationships with physicians and other health‑team members; demonstrates autonomy in identifying opportunities for process improvement.
- Evaluates plan of care for patient based on optimal specific outcomes; documents patient/family response and collaborates to revise plan as needed.
- Supervises delegated care; implements plan of care ensuring a safe and therapeutic environment while respecting patient’s autonomy, dignity, and rights.
- Acts as patient advocate; delivers care in a non‑judgmental, non‑discriminatory manner sensitive to patient diversity.
- Recognizes emergency situations, notifies appropriate personnel, and initiates emergency measures.
- Performs initial and ongoing assessment of patient and family; documents findings and communicates with other health‑care providers.
- Administers medications/treatments safely and monitors effects; uses equipment appropriately.
- Plans care for patient and family, initiates individualized guidelines, updates plan as needed, develops short and long‑term goals, and communicates plan to others.
