Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking passionate and energetic individuals with experience conducting land management and habitat restoration in natural areas of the Ohio River valley. Successful applicants will join a growing group of environmental scientists and practitioners implementing projects to conserve, restore, and manage prairies, streams, wetlands, woodlands, and other native habitats. As an Ecosystem Restoration Supervisor, you will help lead field crews with a focus on safety, innovation, and quality project delivery while in direct contact with Project Managers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Working with and leading field crews to carry‑out tasks related to ecosystem restoration and management on sites ranging from one to 100s of acres.
  • Specific job tasks include invasive species identification and control (herbicide application, cutting, and mowing), native seeding and planting, prescribed burning, and brush and tree removal. Depending on experience and proficiency, equipment operation and tools to conduct the above tasks may include the use of light and heavy‑duty trucks and trailers, chainsaws, brush saws, herbicide sprayers, ATVs/UTVs, tractors, skid loaders with various attachments, and various excavators or earth‑moving equipment.
  • Demonstrating skills and experience with field tasks such as plant identification, invasive species control methods, ecological restoration techniques, erosion and sediment control methods, and wetland and stream restoration.
  • Works directly with Project Managers and senior restoration staff to ensure projects are tracking on time and on budget with specific consideration to scope changes and budget change orders. At times may communicate directly with clients or agency representatives to ensure project goals and objectives are being met.
  • Lead field efforts for planning, collection, and documentation of field and written/tabular data for various restoration tasks.
  • Implementing a safety‑first mindset and applying all established health, safety, security, and environment (HSSE) standards during all office and field operations.
  • Assists with pricing and proposal/bid development for new opportunities.
Your Capabilities and Credentials Required
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in natural areas management techniques including herbicide applications, cutting / mowing, controlled burning, and native planting.
  • Positive, safety‑first attitude.
  • Demonstrated experience with crew leadership, mentorship, and effective team communication.
  • Effective communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
  • Experience understanding and tracking project budgets and scope.
  • Organized and capable of leading work assignments with attention to detail.
  • Ability to read and interpret herbicide labels and Safety Data Sheets and apply herbicides following label instructions and safety procedures.
  • Commitment to producing high quality in‑field work products.
  • Ability to walk 4‑6 miles per day over rough terrain and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • A good driving record and valid state driver's license.
  • Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather conditions.
  • Ability to travel regularly during the field season.
  • Ability to obtain state Pesticide Applicators licenses within one month, including applicable categories for herbicide application in natural areas and aquatic environments.
