Seasonal Grounds Crew – Cincinnati Reds

Job Summary

The Seasonal Grounds Crew supports Ballpark Operations by maintaining the playing field and surrounding grounds to ensure a safe, professional, and game‑ready environment for all events. This role is critical to delivering a high‑quality fan and player experience through efficient field preparation, post‑event restoration, and adherence to organizational standards, often under time‑sensitive and weather‑dependent conditions.

Minimum Requirements
  • Education:

    High school diploma or GED
  • Experience:

    Ability to work in fast‑paced, outdoor environments; prior grounds or manual labor experience preferred but not required
  • Skills:

    Strong verbal communication, ability to follow instructions, problem‑solving, independent and collaborative work
  • Availability:
    Must be able to work at least 30 home games during the season
Preferred Qualifications
  • Education:

    Coursework or training related to turf management, landscaping, or facilities maintenance
  • Experience:

    Previous experience in sports turf, landscaping, or event operations
  • Skills:

    Ability to troubleshoot issues quickly, maintain a positive attitude under pressure, and work effectively in adverse weather conditions
  • Availability:
    Must be able to work at least 30 home games during the season
Primary

Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform daily grounds and field maintenance tasks before, during, and after games and events: 40%
  • Follow directions and carry out assigned duties with minimal supervision: 15%
  • Prepare the field and surrounding areas for games and special events: 15%
  • Interact clearly and professionally with staff, supervisors, contractors, and the public: 10%
  • Troubleshoot and respond quickly to issues arising during events: 10%
  • Adhere to Cincinnati Reds organizational policies and safety procedures: 10%
Physical Requirements
  • Walk, stand, and remain on feet for the duration of an event
  • Lifting, carrying, and transporting items weighing 25 pounds or more
  • Work long and irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Hear, comprehend, and disseminate instructions, including in emergency situations
  • Outdoor work subject to varying weather conditions
  • Extensive walking, standing on concrete, and climbing steps required
Additional Expectations
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be available to work a minimum of 30 home games during the season, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Adhere to Cincinnati Reds organizational policies and procedures
  • Act as a role model within and outside the organization
Employment Conditions

This is a seasonal position and is not eligible for benefits. Any offer of employment is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a background investigation and may require drug screening in accordance with Major League Baseball policies and applicable law.
