Job OverviewThe Luo lab studies neuronal survival and repair in CNS diseases with a focus on neuroinflammation and cell-cell crosstalk. We utilize genetic models and pharmacological methods to study the role of key signaling pathways regulating neuroinflammation and neuronal survival and function.
Assist the Principal Investigator in a given department or field. The incumbent will conduct research and/or analyze research data and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of the University of Cincinnati. Positions are temporary appointments as a research trainee.
Responsibilities and Essential Functions- Conduct research experiments within the neuroscience field and analyze data and develop new ideas that promote research.
- Prepare data summaries, reports, manuscripts and presentations of research results.
- Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentation; may assist in grant writing.
- Keep informed of developments in field to maintain and enhance professional expertise.
- Lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and ordering of supplies, as needed.
- May teach techniques to others, train, and mentor junior research staff.
- Engage in appropriate training and professional development opportunities.
- Develop, troubleshoot, and implement new assays and techniques.
- Play an active role in seeking career and research advice, both from the faculty supervisor and from other faculty members as well.
- Perform related duties based on departmental need. This job description can be changed at any time.
Doctoral Degree in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Neuroscience, or a closely related field, or the recognized terminal degree.
Required Experience- Practical and theoretical expertise in neuroscience, neurodegeneration, disease modelling, and/or neuroinflammation.
- Practical expertise with FACS sorting and RNAseq.
- Experience with animal models (surgical skills and behavioral analysis).
- Practical expertise with gene editing using CRISPR technique.
- Significant practical experience with core techniques in cell biology (e.g. mammalian cell culture and cellular assays) and molecular biology (e.g. genetics and sequencing).
- Exceptional interpersonal, and written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, collaboratively, and productively, as supported by a strong track record of first-author and collaborative papers in peer-reviewed journals.

Compensation and BenefitsSalary: $60,000.00
