Mission of the RoleThis remote sales role requires regional travel across Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Detroit, and Upper Michigan. The successful candidate will grow and maintain profitable accounts within the industrial automation sector, focusing on strategic, complex sales of products, services, systems, and solutions.
Key Responsibilities- Serve as the trusted technical advisor to customers, introducing and selling SICK solutions and Lifetime Services to existing and new prospects.
- Use and accurately maintain the company’s CRM system for all customer and sales process data to support teamwork and global transparency.
- Develop direct customer relationships with deep understanding of business needs, production applications, and industry-specific technical language.
- Apply consultative sales techniques and differentiated solutions to improve customer production quality control and efficiency, using SICK Sales Power (SSP).
- Provide an excellent customer experience, managing communications and relationships for named accounts.
- Identify and qualify business opportunities, assess competition, and understand account potential.
- Generate new leads and opportunities for product applications through continuous research.
- Introduce new SICK products, solutions, and services with urgency and entrepreneurial spirit.
- Form an Account Sales Team with sales colleagues, specialists, and product managers to maximize share of wallet.
- Develop strategic account plans for target customers and opportunities.
- Pursue sales excellence, completing annual objectives and performance reviews.
- Participate in training and development for career advancement.
- Stay updated on market and competitive activity, recommending actions against negative competitor impacts.
- Represent the company at trade shows and deliver marketing/sales presentations to technical societies.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- Four‑year degree in a technical field with a focus on technical sales.
- Prior sales experience, including complex high‑technology industrial control products via direct sales or regional distributors.
- Experience in a technical industry outside of sales is preferred.
- Travel regionally up to four days a week.
- Strong direct sales management skills and experience implementing account sales plans.
- Ability to manage consistently to a common plan and provide sales leadership.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a global mindset.
- Team collaboration and strategic planning abilities.
- Flexibility, resilience, and openness to change.
- Self‑starter with strong motivation for continuous learning.
- General knowledge of software applications and automation technologies.
- Computer proficiency with Microsoft and Internet applications.
- Willingness to work alternative schedules, including weekends and on‑call hours.
- Legally permitted to work in the United States.
- Ability to work in a general office environment.
The base salary is one part of our Total Rewards package and is determined within the following range. The actual starting salary will be based on experience, skill set, education, performance, and other factors.
- Starting Base Annual Salary Range: $74,550 - $112,750
- Bonus Eligibility:
Variable sales commissions based on company and individual performance.
