The Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Hematology Oncology is recruiting for a full-time Research Assistant in the Leukemia and Drug Development Laboratory (LDDL). This Research Assistant would primarily assist the Murine Research Team within the LDDL.

Essential Functions
  • Contribute to collective team effort.
  • Organize research results and data according to good laboratory management practices.
  • Handle and restrain murine models for basic colony maintenance, including:
    General husbandry, sex determination and weaning, Ear tagging and ear/tail snips for genotyping, Oral gavage and/or intraperitoneal injection for drug delivery, Bleeding (via cheek stick), anesthesia andeuthanasia, Specimen processing (necropsy and tissue harvesting).
  • Become versed in the murine models used in the LDDL (i.e. breeding strategies, transgene models and expected phenotypes, and general colony maintenance).
  • May train staff in murine handling techniques.
  • May cross train with molecular biology techniques, such as: PCR based genotyping, Preparingsingle cell suspensions from spleen and bone marrow, Flow cytometry for monitoring tumor development, General cell culture techniques.
  • May help plan experiments and short-term goal setting regarding murine models.
  • Act as liaison between UC’s Veterinary staff and laboratory personnel.

Required Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Four (4) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.
Required Experience

Additional related work experience may be required depending on field or discipline.

Additional Qualifications Considered

Experience using software to track and maintain murine colonies.
