Proofpoint seeks a Sales Engineering Manager to lead a fast‑growing team of Sales Engineers focused on Data Security covering the Americas Public Sector, Commercial segments, and LATAM.
Our SEMs lead from the front, are customer‑facing, technical, and enable their teams to succeed. Candidates should have a track record of leading/mentoring Sales Engineering teams and prior experience as a sales engineer, preferably in data security or risk & governance.
- Coach, enable, and empower a team of experienced Specialist Sales Engineers.
- Strengthen the team by setting shared goals, fostering information sharing, and establishing mentoring relationships.
- Ramp newer members of the team on rules of engagement, build relationships with Specialist Sales Reps, provide technical training, and help them become self‑sufficient.
- Develop and mentor team members to help them achieve career goals, ideally here at Proofpoint.
- Actively participate in escalations and resolve customer challenges.
- Partner with Recruiting and HR to attract, hire, and retain top talent.
- Be customer‑facing and attend meetings with team members.
- Inspire Data Security SEs to become better story engineers using past field experiences and lessons learned.
- Collaborate with Sales, Professional Services, Support, Engineering, and Product Management to ensure effective team operation and customer satisfaction.
- Formulate best practices for presentations, demos, evaluations, and overall sales strategy.
- Act as a trusted advisor to higher‑level management on strategic opportunity reviews, competitive threats, product direction, and sales objectives.
- Participate in ongoing technical training alongside your team.
- Evangelize the Proofpoint vision to customers and prospects at all levels.
- Put your individual contributor hat on when needed to engage customers and formulate strategies for target accounts.
- Build relationships and partner with Sales Management and Sales Teams to acquire and grow accounts.
- Partner with Product and Marketing teams to help prioritize technical features and shape go‑to‑market strategy.
- Track and maintain accurate records of SE engagements and communicate them to management.
- Establish a regular cadence with SEs to provide feedback on opportunities and improve skills.
- Partner with senior SE Leadership on growth plans.
- Responsible for completing periodic and yearly performance reviews.
- Collaborate with Professional Services and Customer Success to maintain outstanding customer experience and retention.
- Become a student of our security and risk platform.
- Travel between 25‑75% within the region.
- Minimum 2+ years of proven track record in leading/mentoring sales engineering teams, preferably in Data Security.
- Experience with in a specialist/overlay sales structure.
- Previous sales engineer experience, 4‑6 years preferred.
- Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, high‑energy environment.
- Good understanding of the cybersecurity market and competition, ideally in Data Security.
- Strong technical background in cyber‑security (Enterprise DLP, Data Security Posture Management, Insider Threat Management).
- Solid sales acumen and partnership ability with account teams.
- Lead‑from‑the‑front style, hands‑on technical ability.
- Independent, adaptable, positive attitude.
- Proven ability to lead complex technical/business conversations with C‑suite executives.
- Bachelor’s or advanced degree in a relevant field, or equivalent experience.
- CISSP or similar certification optional.
- Travel required.
