Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Family Specialist (L1) fosters a safe, trauma-informed environment for supervised visits between the visiting party and child(ren). The Specialist conducts observational visits, documents visits in real time, remains neutral and professional, and provides crisis de-escalation as needed. The specialist coaches families using strength-based methodologies to support overall well-being and progress toward goals.

  • Parenting Time Observation
  • Actively adhere to the six core principles of trauma-informed care and promote a trauma-informed culture and healing-centered treatment.
  • Observe and record interactions during supervised visits; intervene as necessary.
  • Document all contacts, including visits and exchanges.
  • Complete accurate and factual documentation of all visits.
  • Follow orders as set forth by the referring court.
  • Ensure the safety and security of all participants.
  • Work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Prioritize problems to meet requirements and demands.
  • Maintain communication with leadership regarding any changes, issues, or concerns.
  • Collaborate and communicate appropriately with other staff members.
  • Attend and participate in team meetings, staff meetings, and supervision as scheduled.
  • Participate in training and professional development to maintain licensure and enhance skills.
  • Respond respectfully and effectively to people of all cultures, recognizing and valuing the worth of individuals, families, and communities while protecting dignity.
  • Educate parents on safety and risk awareness, increasing natural support, fatherhood, and parenting skills.
  • Coach parenting skills using proven practices and evidence-based models.
  • Provide advocacy and assistance to parents and caregivers in overcoming barriers (financial, housing, food security, transportation, schools, health care, etc.).

Compliance

  • Maintain regular contact with stakeholders to communicate program participation and progress toward goals.
  • Maintain 50% of work hours in direct contact with parents and caregivers on the caseload.
  • Monitor client engagement and address gaps to re-engage.
  • Conduct assessments with outcome tools to identify needs and goals.
  • Complete documentation promptly and in accordance with agency contracts and COA standards.
  • Adhere to ethical standards of professionalism, including confidentiality in line with HIPAA and agency policies.
  • Working outside standard office hours (evenings and weekends) is required.

Work Environment

This role is office- and community-based and requires frequent travel throughout the community to support program recruitment, events, and outreach. Hybrid in-office/online work arrangements may be possible. Working outside standard office hours, including evenings and weekends, is required.

Qualifications

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required. Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Early Childhood Education, Child & Family Studies, Criminal Justice, or related Human Services area preferred.
  • 3+ years of related work experience supporting services for kids and families.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Knowledge of case management and mental health billing.
  • Knowledge of peer-to-peer support and/or mentoring.
  • Strong coaching ability with the capability to tailor programs to diverse needs.
  • Solid organizational and collaborative skills with the ability to work independently.
  • Excellent facilitation skills to engage and train diverse audiences.
  • Willingness to maintain a flexible schedule that may include evenings and weekends.
