Job Summary
The Automation Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining automated manufacturing systems to improve efficiency, quality, and safety. This role supports production by troubleshooting automation issues, optimizing processes, and leading continuous improvement initiatives across equipment and control systems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Design, develop, and support automated manufacturing and assembly systems
- Program, troubleshoot, and maintain PLCs, HMIs, and control systems
- Support robotics, vision systems, sensors, and automated material handling equipment
- Diagnose and resolve automation and controls‑related downtime issues
- Collaborate with production, maintenance, and quality teams to improve equipment performance
- Lead or support automation projects, including new equipment installation and upgrades
- Develop and maintain electrical schematics, control documentation, and standard work
- Implement process improvements to increase uptime, efficiency, and product quality
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, electrical codes, and company policies
- Train technicians and operators on automated systems and controls as needed
- Support preventive maintenance and continuous improvement activities
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Automation, Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, or related field) or equivalent experience
- Previous experience in an Automation Engineer or Controls Engineer role in a manufacturing environment
- Strong knowledge of PLC programming (Allen‑Bradley, Siemens, or equivalent)
- Experience with HMIs, VFDs, servos, robotics, and industrial networks
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and control documentation
- Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills
- Proficient computer skills and familiarity with manufacturing systems
- Experience with robotics integration and vision systems
- Knowledge of industrial safety standards (NFPA, OSHA, etc.)
- Experience with lean manufacturing or continuous improvement initiatives
