Campus Safety Officer Job TitleCampus Safety Officer
SummaryOhio Christian University is seeking a full‑time Campus Safety Officer to ensure the security of academic, residential and administrative buildings, provide general and emergency support services, and maintain a safe and supportive campus environment. This second‑shift position is classified as essential; the officer is expected to be on duty when scheduled regardless of campus status.
Tasks and Responsibilities- Patrol or monitor surveillance systems and ensure the physical safety of campus buildings by locking and unlocking doors.
- Check for unauthorized persons, safety hazards, and general security violations; enforce traffic and parking regulations, and issue tickets.
- Provide escort services for visitors, students, staff, and faculty; perform jump‑starts and other public assistance requests.
- Report all problems or emergencies to the immediate supervisor and document incidents with a written report.
- Maintain a daily shift log and document all activities during the shift.
- Act as a first responder in emergencies and serve as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act.
- High School diploma, Associate's degree, or prior security, law enforcement, or military experience.
- Current OPTA 20‑hour Private Security Firearms Certificate, or the ability to obtain one within six months of hire date.
- Proactive, excellent customer‑service skills, strong human‑relations skills, and a team‑oriented attitude.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and walk foot‑patrol routes.
- Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel for reports.
- Operational knowledge of phones, radios, and a motor vehicle.
Evening and possible overnight shifts, Monday‑Friday (subject to change to accommodate university needs).
