Cotswold Neurodevelopmental Service is a specialist Autism and ADHD service that supports adults and children with neurodevelopmental differences. The service is built on an ethos of placing each person and their lived experiences at the centre of assessment and care, creating a shared understanding of their strengths and difficulties. It was founded in response to the challenges many neurodivergent people face in accessing meaningful and effective support, even after receiving a diagnosis.
The team focuses on providing learning, hope, and opportunities for individuals who experience the world in their own unique way, aiming to bridge the gap between assessment and ongoing support. Clinicians work collaboratively to deliver thoughtful, person-cantered assessments and recommendations.
This is a full-time, on-site role based in Cirencester for Autism Assessors/ADI-R/ADOS Clinicians. The role involves conducting structured autism assessments using tools such as ADI-R and ADOS, as well as comprehensive clinical interviews and observations with adults, children, and their families or caregivers. Day-to-day tasks include reviewing referral information, gathering developmental histories, scoring and interpreting standardized assessments, and preparing clear, accessible clinical reports.
Clinicians will participate in multidisciplinary case discussions, contribute to diagnostic formulations, and offer feedback sessions that support understanding and next steps for each person assessed. The role also includes maintaining accurate clinical records, adhering to relevant professional and ethical standards, and contributing to service development and quality improvement.
- Formal training and demonstrated competence in autism diagnostic tools such as ADI-R and ADOS, or equivalent structured assessment instruments.
- Professional background in psychology, psychiatry, nursing, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, or related field, with registration with the HCPC.
- Experience in neurodevelopmental assessment and diagnosis for autism and ADHD across child or adult populations, including developmental history-taking and behavioural observation.
- Strong clinical report writing skills, with the ability to communicate complex information clearly and sensitively to individuals, families, and other professionals.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities, including active listening, trauma-informed practice, and a compassionate, non-judgmental approach to working with neurodivergent people.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, while also managing individual caseloads, prioritising tasks, and meeting service deadlines.
- Commitment to person-centred, strengths-based practice, with an understanding of neurodiversity-affirming approaches and current guidance on autism and ADHD assessment.
- Good organisational, time-management, and IT skills, including secure record-keeping and use of electronic clinical systems.
