Position Summary

The faculty member will provide counseling services and/or teach assigned classes under the supervision of the area dean, helping students reach their full potential, assessing learning outcomes, and maintaining up‑to‑date knowledge in their teaching field. They will engage in professional development, use current technology, uphold professional conduct, assist with curriculum development, serve on committees, and fulfill other faculty responsibilities.

Assignments may include teaching Human Career Development courses and may result in an overload. The proportion of counseling vs. instruction will vary from 0% to 100% based on student and program needs.

Salary Information

Initial placement is based on academic degree, units earned, and related professional experience per the district guidelines.

Typical Duties

Beyond instruction, duties include academic/career counseling and other student support functions.

Academic/Career Counseling
  • Plan and implement Guided Pathways, matriculation, onboarding, case management, and counseling programs.
  • Offer individual and group counseling for transfers, career goals, and degree planning.
  • Provide short‑term crisis counseling.
  • Facilitate career assessments and interpret results.
  • Collaborate with Admissions, Finance, and other departments.
  • Use technology to develop educational plans and career explorations.
  • Maintain counseling records and uphold confidentiality.
  • Provide services for distance education students.
  • Build relationships with instructional areas, outreach centers, high schools, colleges, and community agencies.
  • Counsel on persistence issues and refer to resources.
  • Employ multitasking and data organization skills.
  • Prepare Individual Integrated Student Educational Plans (ISEP).
  • Assist with long‑term goal planning and transition to universities.
Personal Counseling
  • Support students with life issues impacting academic success.
Crisis Intervention
  • Connect students to campus and community services directly or via partnerships.
Multi‑Cultural Counseling
  • Understand diverse backgrounds and tailor counseling approaches accordingly.
Human Career Development
  • Teach HCD courses such as college orientation, success skills, transfer, personal development, and career decision skills.
  • Refer to the Program and Majors webpage for course listings.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical/social counseling, guidance, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy, or equivalent. Degrees must be from an accredited institution and completed by July 1, 2026.
  • Alternative:
    Bachelor’s degree in a listed field plus an active Marriage & Family Therapist license.
  • Equity‑minded focus and sensitivity to diverse student backgrounds.
