For outside applicants Starting rate of pay: $18.50 per hour; after 90 working days, $18.75 per hour (6.5-7.00 paid hours per day) working during school year

- High School Diploma, required
- Associate’s Degree or higher or 5 years of experience as a Highly Qualified Para educator, Required
- One (1) to three (3) years of experience working with children with special needs, preferred
- Training in crisis intervention, CPR, and First Aid, required
- Ability to work as part of the educational team
- Strong communication skills with emphasis on the ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Ability to be flexible and perform tasks as assigned
- Able to prioritize identified needs of students by following directives of classroom teachers, staff, and peers, as well as the goals of the IEP
- Basic knowledge of computer applications, Microsoft Office programs, G Suite, and student databases
- Strong interpersonal skills

Director of Special Education, Building Principal, or designee
The Para educator is responsible for supporting student instruction by performing remediation and non-instructional tasks under the supervision of a certified professional (teacher, therapist, administrator). This position is not responsible for the design or assessment of the teaching/learning process. As the para educator support students, consistent and regular attendance is required. The role of the Para educator varies according to assignment. The work in this position involves very confidential matters and confidentiality must be maintained.
The Para educator should be able to use independent judgment in determining various issues that do not involve major deviations from established policy and procedure. The Para educator should understand student and program needs and anticipate/respond accordingly.
ACCOUNTABILITIES

- Assist children to and from the bus at arrival and department times
- Support students individually and in groups with the general education curriculum as directed
- Prepares and operates instructional equipment and materials as assigned
- Performs instructional reinforcement activities as delegated by the teacher, administration, and/or IEP
- Work cooperatively with instructional personnel in the classroom setting
- Attend training as required which may include but is not limited to Crisis Intervention, CPR, First Aid, and meet the annual professional development requirements
- Participates in teacher and student meetings and conferences, as requested
- Interacts and assists in the supervision of students during work-instructed assignments, play activities, field trips, and emergency drills in all environments
- Maintains updated records and data
- Assures all possible measures are taken to assist students in the event of emergency until help arrives
- Facilitates personal care services as assigned to assist students with activities of daily living necessary for comfort and well-being
- Follows and implements IEPs and/or behavioral management intervention plans under the direction of certificated personnel, as assigned
- Completes ACCESS documentation and reports, as assigned
- All other duties as assigned by the Supervisor of Special Education, Building Principal, or designee
- Standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time
- Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling 35 pounds
- Ability to kneel, crouch, bend and reach to retrieve and handle materials and supplies
