General OverviewProvide direct patient care and assist with non‑direct patient care unit coordination. Perform basic nursing procedures for stable patients and support the RN with acutely ill patients. Maintain medical asepsis, uphold patient dignity, adhere to hospital policies, manage emergencies, maintain unit environment, use accurate verbal and written communication, and document care in the electronic medical record. Work under general or direct supervision of the RNs, following assignments from the Charge Nurse or Care Team Leader.
Demonstrate efficient time management and participate in coordination of admissions, discharges, and transfers.
- Provide, obtain or perform and document direct patient care and activities such as activities of daily living, incentive spirometry, skin survey, vital signs, specimen collection, phlebotomy, intake & output, meal consumption, height & weight, 12‑lead EKG testing, blood glucose testing, point‑of‑care testing, bladder scanning, transportation of patients and their records, O₂ documentation, early mobilization protocols, catheterization technique per hospital protocol, dressing changes, Foley catheter removal, urine specimen collection, IV access removal, and assistance with exams, treatments and procedures.
(50%) - Participate in quality and patient satisfaction initiatives including bedside shift reports, purposeful hourly rounding, falls prevention, hand washing, isolation protocols, maintaining a clean environment, and training newly hired PCTs. (20%)
- Accurately document vital signs, weights, I&O, restraints, specimen collection, EKG completion, and all other treatments; report changes in patients’ physical, mental and emotional conditions and any concerns to nursing staff. (15%)
- Participate in unit activity such as supply stocking and equipment/appliance cleaning, checks and retrieval. (15%)
- Perform other duties as assigned or required.
- High School or GED
- Experience as PCA, PCT, NA, LPN, EMT, or Military roles such as Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat medic (68W), or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1)
- 1 year in an acute or long‑term care facility or enrollment in an Associate’s or Bachelor's in Nursing (half‑way or junior year)
- Basic computer skills
- Proficiency in phlebotomy and straight catheterization
- CPR – American Heart Association
- Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
- Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate
- Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
