Work Term:

Full‑Time Seasonal (Monday – Friday, 38.5 hours/week)

June 15 - June 28 (preparation and training), June 29 - August 28 (camp)

Compensation:

$19.00/hour

The Position:

Reporting to the summer camp director, you will plan and facilitate a variety of outdoor, nature‑based experiences that develop skills and foster an appreciation of the natural environment. You will provide camp counsellors with the tools, resources, and support to deliver a high‑quality outdoor, nature‑based program, and will assist them to create an environment of camaraderie and respect among campers.

Lil’ Explorers & Outdoor Explorers – an introductory outdoor camp experience for children 5-8 years old. Campers participate in creek exploration/hiking, shelter building, campfire building/cooking, natural arts, and active games.

Outdoor Leadership – this program builds on the Outdoor Explorers program and includes mountain biking and archery. Participants are introduced to concepts related to teamwork and leadership development.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, prepare and facilitate a variety of outdoor, nature‑based experiences that foster an appreciation of the natural environment and develop skills.
  • Submit weekly program plans and schedules to camp director.
  • Plan, coordinate and execute camp wide theme days and special events.
  • Ensure all program schedules and activities (including theme days and special events) are communicated to the summer camp team on a regular basis.
  • Adhere to the program structure and guidelines as outlined, and access program resources and support from the camp director.
  • Fully and enthusiastically participate in all camp activities, while being a positive role model and reflecting the values of the organization.
  • Communicate professionally with colleagues, families, partners, and other SPC employees.
  • Ensure family inquiries and concerns are shared with the camp director to ensure prompt, professional follow‑up.
  • Attend and fully participate in all employee orientation, training and meetings as outlined.

Qualifications,

Education and Experience
  • Minimum of 18 years old.
  • Post‑Secondary enrolment in a relevant field is an asset (e.g. CYW, OCT, Outdoor Education, Outdoor Adventure Leadership, Recreation and Leisure).
  • 3 years experience working at an outdoor day camp or overnight camp; experience in a camp leadership role is an asset.
  • Experience planning and facilitating outdoor, nature‑based programs for children 5–12 years.
  • Valid, up‑to‑date Standard First Aid with CPR C (prior to the start of contract).
  • Holds a Hive Five Principles of Healthy Child Development Certification (asset).
