Basic FunctionThe Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintenance, repair, and installation of building equipment, fixtures, and systems. This role relies on direction from the supervisor, individual initiative, and cooperation with others. The technician should be willing to assist team members and contribute to department goals on an ongoing basis.
Essential Functions- Provide effective maintenance and repair of campus building structures, fixtures, equipment, and related record-keeping, with experience in electrical, carpentry, plumbing, painting, and preventative maintenance. Emphasis on plumbing, including fixture and pipe unclogging, maintaining, and related cleanup; lead plumbing work in-house as needed.
- Complete campus work orders in a timely and accurate manner.
- Report progress and completion in the work order database, and verbally as needed.
- Respond to campus emergencies during normal duty hours, as needed.
- Conduct preventative maintenance on equipment owned and operated by Claremont McKenna College.
- Perform shop maintenance and daily cleanup.
- Periodically inspect campus buildings for appearance and safety issues; suggest improvements to Supervisor.
- Assist Supervisor with parts research, orders, purchases, and pickup of parts and tools.
- Maintain records of procurement, including parts and supplies specific to CMC Maintenance.
- Use plumbing knowledge to guide the Maintenance team in plumbing repairs and maintenance campus-wide.
- Learn CMC HVAC computer controls and assist in management, adjustment, troubleshooting, and improvement of controls.
- Collaborate with Supervisor and HVAC Controls vendor to monitor schedules, setpoints, setbacks, controlled points, alarms, and anomalies in Eco Struxure and FMCS software.
- Assist with computer and office elements of the Maintenance sub-department as directed.
- Support annual campus events or moves as needed.
- Participate in training to advance techniques and department performance.
- Perform other essential duties as requested by Supervisor.
- May train and work with temporary employees.
- Maintain a mix of office and in-the-field maintenance work that varies day-to-day.
Regular attendance is an essential job function.

Education: Any combination of education, training and/or experience equivalent to a high school diploma or GED, or otherwise providing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. A minimum of three to five years of plumbing/construction or facility maintenance experience with increasing responsibility in installation and repair of plumbing systems is required.
Licenses: Valid driver’s license required to drive college-owned vehicles and to be insured under the College’s driver policy.
Physical Requirements: Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, push, pull, stop, twist, stretch, squat, reach, and lift up to 50 pounds. This is a heavy work classification with travel across campus; continual walking, lifting, and grasping; frequent climbing, balancing, kneeling, and crouching. Exposure to dirt, dust, and noise. Must be able to operate equipment and pass a functional capacity test after job offer and prior to hire.
