Air Cooler Heat Transfer Application Engineer
Our client near Claremore, OK is seeking multiple high performing Air Cooler Heat Transfer Application Engineers to join their sales engineering team. Primarily responsibilities include direct customer communication and all internal sales support for the air‑cooled heat exchangers. Sales support consists of technical/commercial evaluation of customer requests for air coolers, completion of thermal and mechanical designs, submitting detailed technical/commercial proposals to customers, technical clarification, negotiation of contracts with clients, project management of projects, developing long term partner/relationships with all customers.
This role will directly support sales initiatives within the natural gas compression and gas processing markets. The ideal candidate will possess a technical understanding of heat transfer design, paired with essential application engineering skills, to provide accurate, competitive, and reliable air‑cooler quotations to customers.
- Collaboration: Develop and manage multiple sales accounts and work directly with customers to bid air coolers.
- Proposal Development: Prepare complete, accurate, and organized technical and commercial responses to customer inquiries, including comprehensive proposals that define the scope of supply and address customer specifications.
- Client Engagement: Establish and maintain direct relationships with customers, providing training, literature, and product presentations tailored to their needs.
- Cost jobs: Cost all jobs to ensure competitiveness and compliance to customer application and specifications. Attention to detail and willingness to iterate are keys to success.
- Design Evaluation: Optimize thermal designs to align with customer needs and ensure optimal performance.
- Vendor Negotiation: Collaborate with appropriate Subject Matter Experts including engineering, manufacturing, purchasing and outside vendors to get all required technical data, pricing, and delivery information to ensure quote accuracy.
- Project Communication: Work with project management to clearly convey the technical and commercial aspects of projects sold to customers.
- Client Follow‑up: Ensure timely follow‑up with customers to address their needs and respond to any changes in requirements.
- Special Projects: Complete additional tasks as required.
- Travel: Minimal.
- Design & Quoting: Conduct thermal and mechanical designs of custom‑engineered air cooler equipment (e.g., fin‑fan coolers, air coolers) using proprietary software, 3rd party software, HTRI and established engineering principles.
- Application Engineering: Transform complex customer specifications into optimized, commercially viable designs suitable for sales proposals.
- Technical Support: Serve as the primary technical liaison for customers, providing design rationales and troubleshooting support throughout the sales cycle.
- Proposal Generation: Collaborate with sales managers to create technical proposals that meet industry standards (e.g., API 661, ASME).
- Continuous Improvement: Assess and optimize designs for cost‑effectiveness and performance using heat transfer enhancement techniques.
- Interdepartmental
Collaboration:
Interface with mechanical engineering, drafting, and manufacturing teams to ensure accurate project execution.
- Education (Preferred): Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or other engineering. Some of their best application engineers are technically proficient through other degrees or experience (real life and natural abilities).
- Experience: 3-5 years of experience in thermal design or application engineering within the heat transfer, compression, or natural gas processing industries. Familiarity with air‑cooled heat exchangers, reciprocating compressors, and natural gas engines is advantageous. Experience with Ariel compressor packages or engines from CAT, Waukesha is highly valued.
- Skills: Proficient in heat transfer principles, thermodynamics, and fluid dynamics. Strong analytical skills with keen attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective customer interaction. Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment and propose custom solutions. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with HTRI is a plus.
