Job Title: Street Maintenance Worker
FLSA: Hourly/Non-Exempt
Department: Public Infrastructure
Reports To: Streets General Foreman
Salary Range: $15.00 - $18.96 (Depending on experience and qualifications)
General
Purpose:
Under the general supervision of the Streets General Foreman, performs a variety of unskilled or semi-skilled maintenance work, operating equipment for construction, operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of city infrastructure. This is a safety sensitive position subject to random drug testing; zero tolerance for drug positive.
- Asphalt patch repair
- Operate gasoline powered hand tools
- Use various hand tools such as concrete rakes, hammers, wrenches, screwdrivers, shovels, etc.
- Barricade maintenance and repair
- Inspect and/or repair streets and drainage systems at frequent intervals to ensure proper functioning
- Determine locations of gas, telephone, power, television, water and sewer lines prior to excavation
- Maintain equipment and tools by cleaning and checking after use; keep records of inspections and maintenance activity
- Drive trucks of various sizes and weights for loading, hauling and unloading of equipment, gravel and sand
- Perform duties in accordance with safety and security standards
- Perform labor involved in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew, including pavement cutting, ditch digging, laying and back filling, mowing, weed eating and litter removal
- Operate a variety of power construction and maintenance equipment
- Perform other related duties as assigned
- Perform manual tasks such as setting bases and forms to pour concrete
- Operate concrete saw to cut expansion and contraction joints in concrete; fill cuts with tar to allow concrete to breathe
- Finish surfaces of freshly poured concrete streets, walkways and curbs to specified grade and contour using hand tools such as floats, trowels and screeds
- All other duties as assigned
Skills:
- Knowledge: Knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods and procedures used in maintenance, construction and repair activities.
- Abilities: Come to work on time, follow directions, be honest and dependable, maintain a safe work environment, be cooperative, have a positive attitude, be courteous and considerate with team members, manage time effectively, concentrate on work, recognize problems and find solutions. Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods, work safely, communicate effectively verbally and in writing, establish and maintain effective working relationships, and understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
- Skill: Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment.
- Class B CDL Oklahoma Driver’s License with a tanker and air brake endorsement or the ability to obtain Class B CDL within twelve (12) months of hire.
Motorized vehicles and equipment including dump truck, pickup truck, utility truck, tamper, plate compactor, saws, pumps, serial propane kettle, compressors, sanders, generators, common hand and power tools, shovels, wrenches, detection devices, mobile radio, phone.
Physical Demands:Regularly require use of hands to handle objects, tools or controls and reach with hands and arms. Frequently required to stand and talk or hear. Occasionally required to walk, sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and smell. Must lift or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus.
WorkEnvironment:
Works in outside weather conditions, near moving mechanical parts, wet or humid conditions, vibration. Occasionally works in high precarious places and is exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. Noise level usually loud.
