RN - Supervisor Hospice
WVU Medicine is seeking an RN - Supervisor Hospice to assist the Director in planning, directing, supervising, and monitoring department activities to achieve optimum patient care by meeting established goals and objectives.
In the absence of the Director, this role will plan, direct, supervise, and monitor the activities of the department to achieve optimum patient care, coordinating activities with the Medical Staff, Administration, families, ancillary services, and community agencies to enhance total patient care.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education, Certification, and/or Licensure- Current Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which services will be provided or current multi‑state Registered Nurse license through the eNLC.
- Valid driver’s license.
- CPR certification within 30 days of hire date.
- Three (3) years of progressive Registered Nurse experience.
- Two (2) years Hospice experience.
- Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Two (2) years of previous experience in a hospital/home care/hospice leadership role preferred (such as charge nurse, or documentation of strong leadership while functioning as a staff nurse).
- Maintain working relationships with patients, families, staff, physicians, and referral sources.
- Take phone calls and make appropriate documentation of these calls.
- Obtain orders from physicians as needed.
- Assist with critical lab reporting/monitoring.
- Communicate patient care problems or potential problems to the Director to assure continuity and coordination of care.
- Assume on‑call responsibility per policy/procedure.
- Perform essential functions of the RN.
- Document patient status and care or services furnished in appropriate areas, as defined by the documentation policy and procedure.
- Monitor supervisory reports for LPH/HHA compliance.
- Complete and document full system assessment, including physical and psychosocial aspects and identify age‑specific criteria upon admission and each visit thereafter. Monitor staff patient care practices.
- Perform CPR when directed.
- Demonstrate the ability to order and maintain equipment according to the policy and procedure manual.
- Demonstrate bag technique per policy and procedure.
- Perform and monitor patient teaching according to the policy and procedure.
- Coordinate care so that medications are administered as ordered by a physician and in compliance with the medication administration policy and procedure.
- Consult with the Director on difficult cases.
- Assist in orienting new staff to the role as needed.
- Exercise independent professional judgment by identifying potential problems and taking appropriate action.
- Attend all meetings (as available) including conducting IDT weekly meetings with accountability for compliance.
- Monitor faxed labs. Contact physician offices of abnormal labs.
- Supervise staff schedule as requested, resolving any problems and keeping orders current.
- Assist with duties of the director when out of the office including appropriate work queues and reports.
- Maintain schedules to assure adequate coverage, clear patterns, and adequate notice to associates to achieve department outcomes, and oversee productivity.
- Upload HIS admission/discharge after Director audit.
- Delegate proper tasks to appropriate person with accountability.
- Maintain working knowledge of flow‑charting, EPIC, Kronos, Word, and Windows, per department needs.
- Assist director with Kronos compliance. Maintain on‑call and holiday schedule.
- Frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and feeling are necessary body movements utilized in performing nursing duties throughout the shift.
- Must be able to lift, move, and position patients of all weights, with varying amount of assistance in a fair manner on a regular and recurring basis.
- Hearing within normal range is required.
- Visual acuity must be within normal range.
- Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
