OverviewProvides direct and indirect patient care services that meet the psychosocial, physical and general aspects of care; maintains regulatory agency requirements, nursing and hospital policies, procedures and standards. Communicates with physicians and team members about changes in patient’s clinical condition, including diagnostic results and symptomatology. Responds quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Performs general nursing duties in all departments with adequate supervision.
Responsibilities- Demonstrates ability to perform head-to-toe assessments on patients (including pediatric, geriatric and general populations) and reassess as per policy.
- Assesses and reassesses pain; utilizes pain management techniques; educates patient and family on pain management.
- Performs patient care considering age-specific standards of care.
- Knows medications and their correct administration based on patient age and condition.
- Follows the seven (7) medication rights and minimizes medication errors.
- Revises and evaluates the plan of care in response to patient progress.
- Performs waived testing (point-of-care) per applicable policies and interprets results, taking appropriate action.
- Implements a teaching plan based on patient learning needs; includes family as appropriate.
- Assists physicians with procedures and performs services requiring technical and manual skills.
- Performs treatments and services to the level of licensure; maintains patient safety and quality care.
- Respectfully addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and families; involves them in care planning.
- Interacts professionally with patients, families, team leader, co-workers and physicians; coordinates and oversees patient care as needed.
- Ensures documentation meets current standards and policies; responds appropriately in emergencies or distressing situations.
- Maintains good working relationships within and across departments; remains flexible and organized under stress.
- Operates equipment safely and correctly; performs other duties within the RN scope of practice.
- Adheres to dress code; appearance is neat and clean.
- Completes annual education requirements and maintains regulatory requirements (federal, state, local, accrediting bodies).
- Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
- Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated time; wears identification; uses timekeeping system correctly.
- Completes in-services timely; attends annual reviews and department in-services as scheduled; attends staff meetings or reviews minutes.
- Represents the organization professionally; participates in performance improvement and CQI activities; adheres to ethical business practices.
- Comms the hospital mission, ethics and department goals.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Current state Registered Nurse licensure in the state of practice.
- Current BLS certification.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English (verbal and written).
- Additional languages preferred.
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Mobility, sight, hearing, verbal communication; exposure to varying temperatures and environmental hazards.
- Frequent standing and walking; lift up to 100 pounds; carrying up to 40 pounds; pushing/pulling up to 450 pounds.
