Guest Advocate (Cashier)

Starting Hourly Rate: $15.50 USD per hour.

All About On‑Demand

You can work as much or as little as you like. Your schedule may vary depending on shift availability and store needs. You will not be listed on the posted weekly schedule; instead you create your own schedule by picking up shifts posted by leaders or other team members via the myTime mobile scheduling app.

Reliable and prompt attendance is necessary. We ask that you work at least one shift within 5 months or your employment may be administratively terminated. You should respond to contact attempts and pick up a shift once every four weeks (minimum of four hours).

Upon acceptance you will attend a Target Welcome orientation and a short‑term structured training schedule. After training, shifts are managed through the myTime app.

All About Service & Engagement

Advocates of guest experience welcome guests, thank them, and exceed service expectations. You will help make shopping quick and easy at the check‑lanelines, guest services, gift registry, pick‑up, and drive‑up while ensuring exceptional quality.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate a service culture that prioritizes the guest service experience by delivering the service standard.
  • Create a welcoming experience by greeting guests while completing daily tasks.
  • Engage guests in a welcoming way to help solve their specific needs.
  • Be knowledgeable about the tools, products, and services available to solve guest issues and improve their experience.
  • Thank guests and express appreciation for choosing Target.
  • Scan and bag all guest items efficiently and accurately, complying with food safety standards.
  • Work efficiently to minimize guest wait time while maintaining service and accuracy.
  • Inform guests about current and upcoming brand launches, store activities, and events.
  • Promote and enroll guests in Target Loyalty programs and other fulfillment services.
  • Explain the use of Wallet and other features within the Target App.
  • Attempt every return and follow register prompts; partner with leaders as needed to resolve issues.
  • De‑escalate situations and recover the guest shopping experience while following Target policies.
  • Deliver accurate service to all Order Pick Up, Drive‑Up, and Registry guests.
  • Maintain a clean, clutter‑free work area, including gathering abandoned items, baskets, and hangers.
  • Stock supplies during store open hours and remain available for guests.
  • Adhere to a culture of ethical conduct, safety, and compliance.
  • Follow safety policies, best practices, and training; report hazards where possible.
  • Support guest services such as order pick‑up, Drive‑up, and compliance with beverage laws.
  • Assist with cash office processes and manage cash systems as needed.
  • Perform other duties based on business needs.
Qualifications & Skills

  • You are open to working a flexible schedule with varying hours, days, or shifts.
  • Communicating effectively with positive language and attentive to guests' needs.
  • Remaining focused and composed in a fast‑paced environment while completing multiple tasks.

  • Attention to detail while multi‑tasking.
  • Willingness to educate guests and engage around products and services.
  • Ability to communicate on multiple devices and operate handheld scanners and technology equipment.
  • Work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Accurately handle cash register operations and support cash office requirements.
  • Manually lift or move product up to 44 pounds, occasionally up to 10 pounds without assistance.
  • Flexibility to pick up shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures, humidity, and other environmental conditions.
  • Remain mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift.
